I still don't have my car yet, but My Garage switched over from the time line to car info today. One of the things that's now available is something called BMW CarData. Reading through the page, it's a way to get general car info (mileage, charge, etc.) but to also share that info with third parties. The web page makes it sound like it's easy to change your settings, but I wanted to reach out those here who already have a BMW. Is it easy to restrict access? Does it default to being open to everything open and then you have to update, or vice versa? For those who share info with third parties, do you find a lot of ads or "recommendations" showing up? It seems like it's borderline spyware, but curious to get the opinions of those who are currently using it.

If you're asking the basic question of whether or not CarData is an optin or an optout program, it appears that it is optin. Which is to say you have to give explicit approval to BMW NA to grant any 3rd party access to your telematics data. By default, my CarData section Manage Permissions has no authorizations or permissions set. If I ever do grant permission, it appears there's a page to revoke access so BMW does allow for easy management of this.

I don't think BMW will have great PR if they start sending this sort of information out there to the highest bidder or partner.

Has anyone pulled their CarData report to see what's on there? Car Data Report : My Garage | My BMW

"With BMW CarData, you always have an overview of the telematics data that your vehicle regularly sends to BMW as part of BMW ConnectedDrive services and is stored there."

I've created it right after buying the car, the info was interesting and I appreciated that you can request it. I don't have access to that old dataset any longer and I don't remember the exact details.

But I requested it again just now, to see how much they've collected after 3 months of driving the car.

(Thanks for reminding me :) )

Since I got my car yesterday, I'm interested in what type of information shows up on the report?

@MzTeaze it's extremely dry, basically technical data that the car sends to BMW. It is things all the way from battery charge to whether the sunroof is open.

Here's just a snip of some of the exciting data that you can find in your report. The general report is just general info, but there are a couple of JSON files (charging history and learning navigation) and an XML file that's part of the download. I'm not clever enough to make sense of the learning navigation file, but the charging history is pretty straightforward.

Also, it's Euro-style dates, so this report is actually from August.

I'm going to play around with this a bit on an actual computer. The idea of pulling back the JSON data at regular intervals and saving it locally would be ideal for me. Thanks.

Am I the only one seeing just a blank page for this? Follow up question, is there any way to bring up these details inside the vehicle itself?

How does one go about requesting a car data report on the car's available SOC? I have the myBMW app, but I don't see where to request the report.

You have to use the MyGarage site on bmwusa.com. Note: evidence is that it doesn't actually report "available" capacity. We don't really know what the battery value means, but there is evidence it moves both up and down, so it's not degradation or a sign of current capacity.
