New software update (7/2025.51)! I was not expecting this one. Seems fairly small. Not sure what is in it.

Moderator: moved your post from the .38 thread to this one

Nobody said us 8.0 users were getting it!

The current/older .38 seems to have a memory/save problem.... doesn't remember some settings.

Got the update and installed it. The only thing I've noticed so far is it feels like the auto seat belt tightening is less aggressive. Might just be me, though.

Gosh, I hope this is true. I'm short and the auto adjust chocks me everytime. If the seatbelt could adjust on the 'wall' it might make the auto adjust less chocking.

Got the alert today as well. When I upgrade to 07/2025.38 just 2 weeks ago I noticed 2 issues immediately. Hope .51 fixes them:
1) Lane Assist went nuts. Several times I was driving near perfect, ie well within my lane, and it would think I’m veering to the white line and vibrates the steering wheel etc. So I had to turn the function off.
2) The occupancy icon would randomly show the wrong rear seat being occupied, which is not a big deal.

I think I had the 03/2025 ver before btw.

It’s been mentioned here several times: .38 reset the lane assist to its default strength setting. just go back to the menu and set it to a lower settin.

Just finished installing the latest .51. Small 0.3 GB payload. Strangely this time it didn't say to drive the car to download/activate/something. It did everything while parked in the garage.

Someone on Bimmerpost mentioned that this update fixes the "Exclude Home" feature that apparently was previously buggy. This apparently "excludes" auto unlocking of the car at home.
If so, it'd be new – I don't believe that's ever been an option on the i4. I think it's an i5/i7/iX only thing.
Can confirm that comfort access is no longer going crazy at my house.
Just wondering whether "comfort access" in our i4 is the analogous feature to "exclude home", to address Phillies8008's question. We can only speculate as to what this update addressed...

Interesting. I'll install it this evening on the drive home, but does it auto lock when you get out of the car for the first time at home? If not, that's kind of going to suck for people who park outside and have become accustomed to the car locking itself. If this behavior has indeed been changed, I can't understand why they wouldn't include an option to turn the geofencing on or off, as well as being more explicit about the change in the release notes.

Fortunately, I have a garage so not a big deal but I'm pretty sure my car stayed unlocked the whole night. I didn't hear the traditional "beep beep" of unlocking as went to get in this morning. It will be annoying for the first little bit as you get used to the behaviour change, but it only takes a second to touch the sensor on the door handle when you get out to lock at home.

I agree that it's not a huge deal, but for anyone in that situation it's a pretty clear regression in usefulness, especially when it could so easily be solved by simply having a checkbox for the behavior. Assuming it really has changed, I also think it's very, very bad practice to not explicitly and clearly highlight a big change in the behavior of a feature people count on. It should be a notification in the app and car.

Sigh. After all these years I think I'm numb to it, lol. I'm beyond happy that you guys knocked the Yankees out and wouldn't at all mind seeing you guys win the WS. Anybody but the Dodgers at this point, really.

I checked my car and there's no update available, I guess I don't have to recode anything if iDrive 8.0 cars aren't getting this.
Same, and at least based on some posts from other forums, this seems to be for 8.5.

That's incredibly complex code. GPS coordinates, satellites, checkbox graphics, signals going to and back from space...

Floppy disk in the post (2nd Class) from BMW possibly?
It's gonna take a while using their default shipping method, and from Germany? oof

Got the notification on mine today. I'm going to ignore it for a while. I don't use features like "Exclude Home" and I've not noticed any specific issues with the .38 upgrade so I'll stick with it. Upgrading risks me having to re-do all my Bimmercode tweaks again !

I got the notification for this .51 update in Australia on Friday. I installed it yesterday but haven’t used the car since. I was happy with the .38 release so I’m curious what they found that was so pressing that they had to release again.

Is this the first time there’s been two OTA releases for the same major update? There’s usually one OTA and then we see minor patch versions being applied at dealerships.

Are we perhaps seeing a BMW more confident in their ability to provide updates?

When a 2nd update follows rapidly after the 1st (especially with BMW, who seem to have a 6-12 month cadence), it's never a good sign, it means something important got broken in the previous update and needs fixing :ROFLMAO:

We received the update for the iX (8.5) but not my i4 (8.0); so I am guessing this is for the newer cars only.

I’m hoping the frequency of updates means they’re getting closer to enabling Supercharger access. Maybe even allowing secret testing of Supercharging for a select few sworn to secrecy.

I noticed that as well. recently when I get back into my car it is now kind of random as to which screen will be active.
Sometimes Home, sometime the EQ, sometimes Map.... Has no relevance to what I was last using.
It's kind of annoying.
One slightly annoying thing I have noticed with this .51 update is that the car does not remember my drive configuration. I usually drive in Sport Individual, and whenever I turn off the car, I am reset to the Eco Pro configuration. I have to go back and activate Sport Individual, which is not something I ever had to do in earlier versions of the software.

The diamond in the HUD (eco pro individual) keeps coming back with this .51 and .38 before this. Was good before it.

Good to know that someone else sees this behavior as well. I also tried changing to Sport instead of Sport Individual and the reset to Eco Pro still happens after I turn on the car.

These latest updates have been an absolute mess. As mentioned in other posts, my car doesn't remember driver assist settings, nor does it keep learning navigation off. I've also noticed it sporadically can't tell what lane I'm in on the highway, prompting me to change lanes to a lane I'm already in. It's rare to take such a huge step backward with no appreciable benefit.
