My AC charging limit keeps resetting to 16 amps regardless of whether I make the change in the app or in the car. Anyone else finding this?

This isn't very helpful, but I've had my car for 2 weeks, done around 7 home charges now on AC 7.4kW, 32 amps, and no issues so far.

I get full rate at home. Certainly doesn't drop to 16 amps for me.
Same. Never a problem. 7 to 7.4kW, 32 amps consistently.

I am having the same issues with my I4 M50. We 3 EV's and the service panel to those 3 is limited to 100 amps which limits me to 80 amps continuously. If I set the AC limit to either 32 amps or 24 amps it keeps defaulting back to 16 amps. I have tried to set it thru both the app as well as the idrive and no luck. The solution was to set the AC charging to unlimited on the car and set the limit on the wall connector instead.

I'm seeing the same thing. If I have a charging limit set, it keeps resetting to 16A. But changing to unlimited will stay as set (that is, will not reset to 16A). App vs in-car doesn't seem to make a difference. Has been this way since delivery in early December. I haven't yet done any scientific testing to see exactly when the current limit resets to 16A.

My Grizzl-e wallbox is set to 40A max, so I'm not worried about the unlimited in-car setting.

I've had the same problem and asked the tech guy at my dealer about it. He couldn't figure it out either and suggested that I just set it to no limit (which is 40 amps with the BMW provided charger) and as others have said, it works fine.

Can someone explain why this matters? Is the a Level (1,2,3) where you SHOULD use 16a limit? What are the consequences? And, yes, I am this ignorant when it comes to electricity. Thanks!

It has to do with the current your circuit can deliver.

I limit even to 10A on level 1. The cables, the household socket, and the converter box itself seem to get very hot when running the max 16A. That, and the phases in my house are all 16A so that means I cannot use anything else on that phase. Have to do so manual load balancing :p
Level 1 is 120V and as far as I know, this does not exist in Europe. But I guess you meant Level 2 (230VAC). If you are using the charger delivered with the car and connect that to 230VAC wall contact then the car will automatically limit the current to 10A, so you don't need to set a limit in the car, unless you want to limit to 6A, which is the minimum.
