Hi All,

I’ve had a good search and can’t find what I am looking for.

Basically dealer has now confirmed my E40 in build will have the adaptive suspension deleted. Semiconductor shortage given as reason. I’ve seen the BMW information and its standard Msport suspension in replacement with a small price reduction on the Pro pack.

can anyone confirm if this is adjustable damping by button or just one single setting? Dealer says adjustable but could not 100% confirm.

Has any one have experience of modern Msport suspension? I’ve had the adaptive on last 2 cars.

many thanks .

I am 99% certain the msport suspension is just a firmer suspension set up. It is not adjustable. Google msport suspension and that is all you will find unless it says Adaptive.

This is what I am worried about. They said ‘adaptive’ is the auto adjustment not the mode select.

most BMW’s have driving mode select

Where is your information from? Have you

is this confirmed information?
I bought an M50 so no I have not personally called BMW to ask about e40 options. But this is what we have heard over and over.

It’s not a disbelief, mixed information and also I am quite shocked that they think binning it for £400 and fitting fixed damping is acceptable.
Will your build still have variable steering? Are you sure your car will even have the M Sport package at all? I've heard it was no longer an option on the e40

The adaptive suspension is an option in Europe. If you don’t have it, as far as i know damping remains unaltered when you change driving modes. My incoming car does not have it. On the other hand, i have read good things about the m-sport non-adaptive suspension so not really bothered. Of course different options matter differently to different people…

Yes the adaptive ones are removed from e40 orders in the UK as of end of Jan (my order had the same treatment)

the e40 I test drove had the adjustable ones (had an automatic mode that adapts to driving in addition to manually changing the stiffness) so it used to be an option but at least temporarily are removed. So it might come back once the shortage is over.

both adaptive suspension and variable steering are removed from e40 in the UK. my order apparently still has the “M Sport Pro” pack though its mostly cosmetic now apart from the brakes which should be the Msport one

That’s pretty poor. Mine doesn’t show any other deletions accept the suspension. So fingers crossed I guess.
What build week are you?

I don't think it is a question of them thinking it is "acceptable". It is a decision based on what parts they can get and still keep manufacturing the cars.

A lot of us have faced similar changes to specifications. I was lucky in that the parts deleted form my build became available again before my car was built. I appreciate it is disappointing but at least you know in advance and can cancel your order if you want but BMW can't build a car that they don't have parts for.

This is how it is these days. The semiconductor issues were expected to clear early to mid 2022, but didn't. Some of the in-use semiconductors are likely not to be manufactured any more, driving redesign and delay.

I'm sad that I don't have kick-to-open. My car was built near the end of its absence. But, I would not (and, obviously, did not) turn away my car even though it's a feature I used frequently in my previous 330.

Would it help to know that that was one of my 'deletions' that I eventually ended up getting in my build?

I thought not.
