Would it help to know that that was one of my 'deletions' that I eventually ended up getting in my build?

I thought not.
You know I knew that, right? ;) 🤣

A bunch of money-losing fabs shut down and left automakers stranded. If they want parts, they will need to redesign or make their own fabs.
Actually, they started making more profitable (and far more modern) chips. They stopped doing the old technology in use for these ancient (in technology terms) chips.

Yes. I didn't mean fabs as in entire factories. I meant fabs as in lines of production. What you said is wholly true.

Here's an article from 2015 that points to where the market was going already. Rise Of The Old Fab

Then covid hits and all these old fabs with their old equipment no longer have buyers, so the companies close up those lines and focus on the new equipment. Then the car companies come back and ask for parts 12? months later, not realizing that a mothballed fab isn't something where you just hit start and it produces. The startup costs of the old fabs would be huge, and meanwhile the chip companies have all these new chips with higher margins that are already pumping out, likely often in the exact spot the old fabs used to sit. Not gonna switch.

So the car companies bleated and bleated wile making promises they couldn't keep.

So maybe a few lines of the old tech started back up, and the shortage lessened, but the smart money is on newer designs that use modern processes, even if they cost more.

Next time, car companies should not screw their suppliers in a downturn, and they shouldn't screw their employees either.

FWIW: My i4 40 was manufactured in December of 2022. It came with the "M Sport Package" which among other things included: "Adaptive M Suspension" and "Variable sport steering". After BMW said they'd no longer build any 40's with it, I had to search far and wide to find one that had this package that was already en-route to a dealer. That said, my dealer only got the car week before last, and I picked it up a week ago Saturday, so there may be others out there.

I completely understand that the parts shortage is real and affects all manufacturers.
But, I’d say suspension is a fairly important part of the vehicle. If it was the boot release or similar I’d cool with it.

My request was for information on the replacement. Seems no one has taken delivery of a delete car as yet.

For anyone that is interested in the ‘replacement option’ when adaptive is delete from you build, I’ll keep updating my findings.

This morning a dealer has sent me a video of an M50 demo that has the adaptive delete. It still has the ability to change damper settings in the menu’s from sport to comfort but will not do this live on road/ driving feedback.

Better than nothing so fingers crossed our e40 builds with M Sport Pro pack get the same treatment 🤞i am just lowering my expectations for now

Sorry for any false hope, dealer now tells me this car in the photo has adaptive included.

I have decided to cancel my order as I can’t get correct information and want the comfort option.
Dealer now say keeping deposit. I’ll challenge it. Very disappointed

it would've been better if the dealer helped you find a car to test drive the standard suspension so you have an informed decision rather than trying to mislead you (at least that how it seemed).
if comfort is the main reason for your choice for adaptive suspension then so is mine. but i heard the standard one is still good from comfort point of view (but not as settled due to lack of adaptive damping)... didnt manage to test drive one myself though.

At least that settles any debate about the non Adaptive cars being able to adjust their suspension from soft to firm!
Sorry that you can't get the car you want. I would be amazed if they can keep your deposit when they can't supply what you ordered!

it’s not so easy like that. many structured cabling parts were coming from the war zone… in addition to that the chip shortage and various plastic molding parts coming from war zones have interrupted the supply chain. Maybe non of you in the USA believes it, but here in Europe we feel the war much more than you think. We have shortage of everything. We still pay a very high price for energy. Around 2 us$ for gasoline / liter and a little bit more for diesel and around 1.6 us$ for 1 MWh of methane (marsh) gas. With this of course a lot of side industries have had big problems and lot of losses and you are right also closed because they were not able to account for the additional cost.
So if in your opinion any car producer has to redesign or open their new factories, they could do it, but the supply chain would still suffer a lot for a longer time…
I am honest…, thanks to someone my car has been produced one week before the war and it was build with all options included, but after that the production of the car industry started to suffer…

I think something was lost in translation.

It's relatively easy to source new plastic moldings and wiring harnesses. Those took many months to clear up, but they cleared up. The hard part is the chips. There are many injection molding and wiring harness companies out there, but they aren't so many chip companies with fabs that make the specific parts the automakers need. Many of those fab lines shut down, and restarting them is not an easy task. The car companies also don't want to pay more for parts.

As for Europe, I think the impacts of the Ukraine war vary by where you are. We were recently in Spain and Portugal, and I saw no impacts. We do have, in the US, extremely high natural gas prices right now, along with staples increasing in price. Hence, restaurant prices are through the roof.

Heard this recently as well. The adaptive suspension isn’t available and now neither are the red brake calipers. Seems insane that they are still charging the same (or close to the same) for basically nothing. If it wasn’t for the terrible 18” wheels on the base i4, I wouldn’t even consider the msport as an option. Definitely won’t be ordering until those options are returned.
