'Bluetooth version no longer compatible'

Took delivery 12-31-22 drove car for 2 weeks then took it in for full ppf/ceramic/tint. Was at the shop for 2 weeks and just got it back last night. I put in valet mode didn’t want guys doing my ppf having access to all of my private stuff since I gave them my fob tied to my profile. When I picked it up last night it refuses to connect my iPhone 14 pro max and times out with this message. Just did the latest iOS update 🤷‍♀️

Did you try:
1) Hard iDrive reset: hold power button 20+seconds
2) Hard iPhone reset
3) Removing the car from the phone Bluetooth list and the phone from iDrive bluetooth list and pairing again?
I have the same problem with my i4. I tried with Samsung S22 and iPhone 14.

edit: Hard iDrive reset: hold volyme button 20+seconds
that fixed the problem.
I am not able to connect none of my cell phones via Bluetooth or Android/Apple car play. It says " Not possible to connect this device, Bluetooth version is no longer compatible". Any suggestions

Do a soft reset, that fixed it for me when I had it once before. ( press and hold the radio volume knob until the screen goes off)

+1 to this. Keep pressing for at least 30 seconds to reset and you'll hear some clicking noises as it shuts down.

Got the same problem today disconnected the phones .rebooted the system by pushing audio volume button +/-30 sec and repaired the phones. It happened after my first fast charging session .I would like to know why this happened? Somebody ?
Had this exact same issue occur for me this morning. Thanks for the help from this thread, I'm back online.
Both my wife's iPhone, and my iPhone, got 'kicked off' of our i4 in the past couple of days (it is as if we had never connected them to the car) and when I try to re-connect, I get an error that says 'Not possible to connect this device. Bluetooth version no longer compatible.'

The car is (has been for some time) at software version 11/2022.63 (which I believe is the latest version), so I thought maybe our phones may need to be updated. With that, I updated both this morning (both phones are iPhone 14 Pro now running iOS 16.4.1 ), however the issue remains unchanged (aka - will not connect / exact same error message).

Anyone else having this issue? I have a call into my local dealer, but curious if this is specific to my vehicle or a general issue. Thanks.

We have an M50 and have the 11/2022.63 software update. Out of the blue (sorry for the pun), our Bluetooth stopped working. We got an error message, "Not possible to connect to this device. Bluetooth version no longer compatible." We have two iPhones that we connect to the car with regularly. Both failed to connect. Also, the toggle switch on the BMW interface to turn Bluetooth on/off was toggled to OFF and we could not move it.

Our BMW Genius (Thank you, Jamie at BMW Portland) sent this - and it worked. I thought this forum would like to see it. He said he has heard from multiple owners with iDrive 8. Here is the fix from him:

You'll need to do a soft reboot of the iDrive. Turn the i4 fully on, then push and hold the stereo volume in. You will keep it pushed in until the central display goes blank, which will take about 15-20 seconds. Once it goes blank, it will quickly reboot and then come back on its own. Once it does, go to the apps section, select mobile devices, then select 'settings' on the right side of the screen. Make sure Bluetooth is enabled again. Then pair your phone back with the vehicle.

I hope that is helpful to someone.

It worked, but it stopped working again the next time I went for a drive.
I got this message last thursday (OS8 03/2023.37) when i pressed the start button , but everything was working and the message disappeared after some minutes. If i see this message again i will let you know…
I've encountered the same problem today and had done a hard reset 5-6 days ago when bluetooth had stopped working. It would seem that BMW's having some issues because when I went on their web site, this came up:

I rebooted the iDrive again and the phone connected w/o issue. I have to wonder though, for how long.

Apple iPhone 14 models use Bluetooth 5.3, but iPhone models 8 through 13 use Bluetooth 5.0. I have a M50 with 11/2022.63. I use an iPhone 12 Max Pro and have no problems. Could this problem be affecting only owners with the iPhone 14 since it does use a different Bluetooth version?

Very interesting question! I hadn't thought about that.

I checked the BMW UK web site which has the compatibility checker (https://www.bmw.co.uk/en/topics/owners/bmw-connecteddrive/bluetooth-and-usb.html). It does not include the i4 on the list. It does not show Apple iPhone 14 models for the iX.

Moving forward, I expect that BMW will address this problem in a future OTA fix since we’re dealing with a Bluetooth component used in current and future phones. This isn’t an EOL support problem.
