Probably won’t apply to the current i4 but maybe we’ll see this in future models (LCI?).

Hmm based on the demo, I would actually prefer to stay on 8.0 with the tiles.

I only use the map if I'm using the route planning.

99% of the time I have Spotify in fullscreen
Agreed. After the video, I won't be too sad not getting it. But I want that manual pre heat button

We will be getting it! I don't understand why people think we aren't? The end of the video he says "all Linux based cars will get it"
The video player is for the cinema displays for passengers in the i7 they were using.
already OS7/OS8 had some video streaming for BMWs in China. Also TV for Japan and more.

Like the German football streaming in OS8 (Pilot for the G70).

I have mixed feelings. Not sure about the new Home Screen. I kind of like the tiles. Also, don't like the font on the Hour and temperature numbers.
No news about YouTube or Netflix, so rumors are just rumors.....

i don´t know. Not very promising , I would say....

iDrive 8.5
So, I didn't get an answer from the german guy mentioned in the press release yet, but I got an answer from BMW Switzerland.
As they underand it, 8.5 will come to all i4's. He didn't knew about the manual pre conditioning but he will write me when he knows more.

I don't think all models will get it. I will be surprise if I get the update....

Well hopefully i4 will include all models. If it's just a software update i can't see how they could exclude any models, then again BMW does what they want...

Instruction set is different and will have limitation on what it can do.

I am hoping that I can op out of the update. I have become accustom to ID8 and I like having the widgets on the Home Screen. I do not like the emphasis on the Map widget with the update.

I would guess that there is probably a hardware requirement, which means all of us early adopters are screwed. Similar to precondition to DC Fast charge button only being available on 11/22 (i think that was the date, don't quote me) and forward.

It is not the first time or the last time bmwblog puts incorrect information on their website, frankly every time I read something on that blog it has some incorrect information. They do not do their homework.

I want to note that bmwblog is just another outlet, and is not an official BMW source.

I could live without iDrive 8.5. I do wonder how it would be downloaded...............I'd rather go to the dealer and have it installed instead of OTA, because if it gets corrupted it would brick your car.

Dealer won't do it unless you pay out of pocket. If it is OTA though, and the download is corrupted, the checksum would fail and the car/MyBMW app on the phone will re-download.

There's another thread about this where a forum user from Switzerland got some positive information from their local "source" that it would come to the i4 current gen.

Don't hold your breathe though.

It's still not clear that we are getting iDrive 8.5 OTA for our cars. The actual press release from BMW says that it will be available in cars produced after July. It doesn't mean that we won't get the update, but BMW hasn't announced anything about OTA for MY22 or MY23 i4s.

LINK

Beginning with July production, BMW Operating System 8.5 will be introduced in BMW iX models, BMW i4 models, and BMW 7 Series models. In August, the new system will be fitted to BMW X5 and X6 models (M models will not feature QuickSelect), BMW X7 models, and BMW XM (without QuickSelect).

We need to start a pool as to whether or not 8.5 will be a reality for existing cars.

Anybody got a line on the odds? Vegas, anyone?
