When the BMW i4 electric sedan arrives in 2022, it will be available in three trims: i435, i440 and M50 xDrive:
  • To be successful in a very competitive segment, the i4 will bring no less than three variants to the table – two rear-wheel drive and an xDrive.
  • The entry level i4 is called the BMW i435 and has a rear-wheel drive and around 280 horsepower. The pricing has yet to be set, but we expect it to be priced similar to the base i3 – in the high $40,000 range.
  • Next on the list is the BMW i440, basically a more premium version of the i435, but with the same rear-wheel drive setup. The power output is certainly higher with around 330 horsepower to be delivered by the electric motor. A boost option might offer even more power over a short period of time. Again, no official pricing point on this one, but we anticipate a figure in the high $50,000 in the United States.
  • The top of the line BMW i4 is tuned by the M division. This comes as no surprise as BMW M CEO Markus Flasch has already confirmed that. The model will be sold under the BMW i4 M50 badge and compared to the other two models, this one has two motors. Therefore, the i4 M50 will be the only 4 Series electric with an all-wheel drive (xDrive) setup. The power figures of the i4 M50 are likely to fall between 450 and 460 horsepower. Same as the i440, a boost option could offer a higher power output for a few seconds at a time.

My immediate reaction is that a highly spec'd i435 is the way to go for me. But I want to see how the range differs between the i435 and i440.

Mid-300 is a good target.
The Model 3 Performance does 315-353 and BMW should aim for the higher end of that.
what's the earliest anyone heard they can get their hands on one of these in the US?

Don't expect any yet till the production i4 reveal happens.
I suggest paying attention to the iX. Orders for it are open and slots are being filled up.
That process could provide us with valuable info.

Welcome to the forum!
As we have snow in Finland for four months a year, the AWD is the only way to go. Just wishing that fancy M50 badge with bells and whistles is not as pricey as it could be!
hm in Germany i can get a 440i xdrive with a good config for 75k Euro. I expect the i440 to be priced similarly, otherwise it won't sell well in Europe.

Don't you guys get thousands of euros from the government for buying EVs?

I guess this isn't happening for the BMW i4 eDrive40...
So, with 5,7" vs 5,6 that i4 is on a par with the rear only Tesla 3, (although BMW usually understates the acceleration)
