...but has already been pointed out, it's the increase in insurance, over multiple years, that is the biggest cost. Plus of course, you are 3 points closer to getting banned (12 points within 3 years). A younger me once drove for a year with 11 points on his licence.
in the UK, you may be offered a Driver Education course instead of the fine and points, but you pay for the course, about £90. You only get offered this if you are not speeding too much and you can't have another one within three years.
Some insurance companies ask if you have done one but there is no centralised database they can check to verify your answer.
