It does but it does not do a watermark on the video, it saves it as a text file with gps coordinates and time stamp, pretty useless unless you have software to read the text file and add the detail on the video.
I wonder if perhaps the text file and video files have the same creation date and time then they might be presented together as some kind of evidence.

But I have never tried to fight a ticket; it is not worth taking days off to go to court. Plus I am always speeding, so on the rare occasions I get caught I don't disparage the officer.

My last ticket was for a red light in CA; caught by a photo-cop. I paid the ticket and did an online driver class to lose the points.

The BMW Eye 3.0 dashcam embeds speed in the video. A feature you can turn off if you want 😉

The more I read about the limitations of the built in drive recorder, the more I'm pleased I got the dashcam as well.

This happened yesterday, on one of the busy freeways (I-15), express lane in Southern California. A CHP officer decided to pull me over for speeding, going 76 miles per hour. (of all speeds). He claimed I was going 82, when I passed him, but clearly that wasn't the case. Doesn't matter much in California since even 1 mile over can result in fine.
A speeding ticket in a BMW is a badge of honor, so wear it proudly. I'm a bit surprised that my liberal use of the i4's acceleration hasn't resulted in a speeding ticket for me yet.

I saw him while I passed him, I didn't believe I'd get pulled over for 76 on the express lane or else I would've slowed down, that's never happened. I take no issue with the ticket, the law is the law, I assume the risk of a ticket every time I go above the speed limit. My main issue was the the fact he didn't like I drive an expensive BMW electric, i4 specifically, given his comment to me.
In my experience, cops HATE getting passed. I once passed a cop going 47 mph in a 45 mph zone (4 lane local road). I passed him very slowly (he was probably going 45-46 mph). Afterwards, he pulled me over (fortunately, only gave me a warning). But seriously, what a douchey move. Since then, I typically avoid passing a cop, even if they're driving at or under the speed limit.

I always recommend doing a dash cam in addition to the Drive Recorder. It has some uses but it’s not very good and very limited. Resolution is terrible especially if you record on all 4 cameras.

I always see what jurisdiction the law safety vehicle is from. We frequently see police vehicles "commuting" from one area to another so they dont really care what is going on around them. But I have seen them turn on their lights and squak at some vehicles when they are being stupid.

Here in South Florida the FHP are pretty business oriented, "yes sir", "no sir", "thank you sir", and be on your way.

Then I call one of the many "Ticket Clinics" and get it resolved. It has worked every time so far, all of two times for me!:rolleyes:

I don't think it helps to kowtow. So if I an behind a cop I will hold myself solidly to the speed limit, and will pass if the cop is slower otherwise I will shadow him.

As you say, if they are deliberately benchmarking the speed limit, they don't want you to pass.

but if they are just slowly cruising for some other reason, the last thing they need is a parade behind them.

I think we moved past that about 30 years ago. Now it has to be two police officers telling the same lie 😉
Yeah. And they do. I once got a ticket - a section whatever- it-is, no fine to pay or points on your licence, but your car is on a more carefully observed radar for 12 months - for tailgating an unmarked police car.

I can't dispute the fact I was tailgating. But I was only tailgating because I was about to overtake it on a dual carriageway and it pulled out suddenly right in front of me, and as I'm only human there was a fraction of a second of proper tailgating before I could hit the brakes.

Plod turned up on my doorstep, telling me that I'd really scared two of their young plastics and I was getting this section-whatever notice for causing them distress. I might have got away with it, hardened criminal that I am, if I hadn't pointed out that one cannot avoid tailgating a car that pulls out unsafely into an already occupied lane. Turns out the plastic plods claimed I'd tailgated them for several miles - which would be quite a feat, given that the dual carriageway in question is less than a mile long and they turned off at the roundabout at the end.

So yeah. Forgive me if I'm a tad cynical about lying coppers. This is one of the reasons why I have dashcams these days.

Your account sounds like a rehearsal for court 😉

But I think it sort of illustrates my point, they had no hard evidence so they couldn't take it further than give you a warning. The thought of @Squirrel1974 being on their crim radar gave me a good laugh.

I had a similar experience. I had been doing some 'exuberant' driving on the way home and noticed a car behind me. Close to my home (not where I was being exuberant) it is all multiple turns in small streets so by the time I pulled into our tiny street, and the car was still behind me, I had a pretty good idea of what was coming. The guy got out of his car with enough silver on his lapels to solve the national debt and gave me a bit of a ticking off...but no ticket. He wasn't in a traffic car and had no official way of measuring my speed. Or maybe he just liked me 😉

Exactly that! Just the word of two lying toads as "evidence". I hope they got their heads kicked in by proper crims.

Hehe, there are certain clues, aren't there! It always amazes me on Motorway Cops and programmes like that how the police can look at certain cars and "know" there's something wrong about them. I can't tell an unmarked car from a civilian car. I was once following a Volvo in my TVR - it was being driven very quickly and very expertly round some country lanes, and I was always up for a play on the roads so I followed. It was only about 8 miles later than I realised that "normal" drivers don't drive like that. So I backed off and made my escape up the nearest side road.

Another fan huh? I think that is editing BS. What they don't show you is the countless cars they are suspicious about that are absolutely fine. Wouldn't make for great TV 😴

I was just thinking that! "He looks like a wrong'un, let's give him a tug! Oh, hello vicar." 😂

Here's one along the same lines. My step-dad was pulled over and received a citation for speeding in a zone where the speed limit was increasing from 35 to 50. They got into some debate on when it was legal to accelerate to the higher speed (when you can see the sign vs when you pass the sign).

Later, when he looked at the ticket itself, the description of the car in question was completely different from his. So he took the court option fairly confident that it would be thrown out on that alone, and/or the cop wouldn’t show. Well, the cop did show (never argue with one - they'll remember).

Step-dad shows his copy of the ticket and reads the vehicle description, "Silver Honda Civic" "Your Honor, I drive a black BMW" Judge turns to the cop, "is that the guy you saw speeding?" "yes". Gavel down, guilty, next.

Your dad would have won on appeal. That was an illegal judgment.

Sure was. Sure didn't matter either :) Officer could say you were speeding, crossing solid lines and running a red light and they wouldn't need any proof besides their word.

Sorry… my sense of Justice won’t let me leave it alone. The testimony of a cop is no better than anyone else, and I’ve had to prove it. Sometimes, it’s necessary to go above the local level. And I have submitted cases to the judicial oversight boards.
