southern CA's raining season is coming; i wonder if anyone ever charge EV outside when there's rain?

Absolutely, any level charging (i.e., 1, 2 or 3). You don't have anything to worry about, outside of your actual charger being rated for all-weather use. Our charger is in our garage and the cord regularly runs outside to a car charging, rain or shine.

Connectors are weather rated and no real current flows until the car and charge point have completed a handshake to set limits.

Yes. Rain, snow, sleet, hail all are a non-issue. The J1772, CCS1 and J3400 connections are all designed to be safe in hot or cold, wet or dry weather. Charge on!

Only issue is how to close the charging port, after it is completely filled with snow. Should have been a heater option on it, and a heater option on the front lamps, and a heater option on the bonnet - In the old ICE cars, snow melted while I was driving because of Motor heat - unfortunately not anymore. Also LED/Laser no heat, I want my good old hot Headlamps back.

Indeed, I would say worth unplugging and closing cover in heavy snow if you don’t need to charge, or if charging required you can get a snow cover for it. It’s normally ok but if you have prolonged snow and it freezes it can become difficult to remove the charge plug and get the cover door closed.

No issue in the rain though.
