Consumption/Range Spreadsheet

Hi all, since more people are getting their i4 now, can existing owners help by populating this spreadsheet with their consumption data? This will help future owners understand the tradeoffs between the models, tire sizes and choices.

The key columns to fill out are the model (eDrive40/M50), consumption (miles/kWh or km/kWh), tire size (17,18,19,20), and tire type (All-Season, Summer, Winter, Other). The 2nd tab of the spreadsheet contains analysis and cannot be edited.

Thank you very much!

It might be good to add the distance for the trip and time it took to complete and then you can calculate average speed which is also pretty important when calculating range.

That’s a great suggestion, having speed for a trip would make the data more accurate but I thought it would be difficult to ask users to track a particular trip with a fixed speed (hoping for YouTubers to do that instead). I was coming from more of a lifetime perspective, like after driving for a couple weeks you could report the consumption and I’ll just take it as an “average” real world data. I guess if anyone has particular speed data please add it to the “notes” column?

Ah fair enough that makes sense - when I glanced over the columns and saw the Tyre/Driving Mode/Regen Braking/Climate I understood it to be on a per trip or shorter than "lifetime" basis as all of those elements (especially tyres and "climate") can change relatively significantly in some places throughout the year.

What about a column indicating driving style? This can massively effect mpkw. Perhaps a sliding scale 1-5. 1 = driving miss daisy, 5 = the full Pastor Maldonado.
id say I’m usually a 2/3 with elements of sporadic 4/5

I’m not so sure how helpful this can be. Consumption is extremely dependent on speed, location, road conditions, temperature, weather, weight…

The results can be misleading in both directions if not documented properly.

Yes, of course it varies… and that’s exactly the point of gathering data right? Once we have a large enough dataset, we’ll have a normal distribution and that’ll give us a good idea of what to expect.

As an advice, I would use Google Forms to fill in the data and I would add also the option to report consumption in kWh/100km, which is the common unit for lots of countries. (you can convert that easily with a formula)

Good idea, thanks. I don’t have the i4 yet and I saw a picture in miles/kWh hence that’s what I used. Seeing that there is no one yet to fill out the spreadsheet I don’t want to spend any more energy/time making forms….

The problem is that then the data is biased towards driving habits of the people in this forum. Those need to be accounted then and documented. Otherwise I'm not so sure which kind of use I can give to the data.

Sure it can be biased towards “enthusiasts” I guess but not trying to be 100% scientific here, and it will never be unless we can control every single factor which is just not possible. Some idea of the consumption is still better than none.

You're right, it's just my data scientist side expressing itself out :D

Haha understood, I’m an engineer myself and yeah, there’s no way we can control everything so just as close as possible is good enough for now… but still, we need data and right now there none :/

Anyone want to help the rest of us by filling out info in the spreadsheet?

I just added a couple of data points. I don't exactly try too hard, but still happy with what I see.

I added a line.

Unfortunate to see I am on the low side, even in warm weather. I did notice that my tires were filled pretty firmly (42PSI front and 46PSI rear) from the factory.

With my old F30 328i, I noticed a pretty big gap between sport and eco driving, usually around 25MPG in Sport and 32MPG in Eco. So I tested this on my commute, which is about 15 miles mix of street and highway driving, and I use 4.4kW in eco driving conservatively, and 4.5kW in Sport Boost driving like mad. I guess hustling 5000 lbs around sucks no matter what mode you're in.
