I was able to get the charging flap to release by toggling the "Unlock charging socket flap permanently". As soon as I sent the command, I heard the flap unlock. So you could open it without taking it to the dealership?

Air wedge...Car 80% charged and the flap won't open.
I'm not calling. I'm dropping by the dealer.
I have an appointment for PPF on Monday.
Tanzanite over tartufo full individual leather with carbon trim.
Not until I stop by the dealer in the morning. I'm not giving anyone an excuse not to service the car.Air wedge...
Did you permanently unlock the charging flap? If not, does doing so solve the problem? (One person claimed it did.)Car 80% charged and the flap won't open.

The issue isn’t the locking mechanism, it’s the push/pull mechanism that actually holds the door shut.Did you permanently unlock the charging flap? If not, does doing so solve the problem? (One person claimed it did.)
Which ones did you buy?Air wedge...
That's one hypothesis, yes. There's evidence to suggest otherwise (look at NCe40's post at the top of this page). We'll see what Techwhiz1's data point says. The issue isn’t the locking mechanism, it’s the push/pull mechanism that actually holds the door shut.
Doing this didn't prevent it from happening to me. Toggling it did, however, unlock the flap. In my instance, I think it was a software related not hardware. I agree though it IS a bad design - no emergency release!Did you permanently unlock the charging flap? If not, does doing so solve the problem? (One person claimed it did.)

That's exactly what it is.The issue isn’t the locking mechanism, it’s the push/pull mechanism that actually holds the door shut.
I will take preventative measures in the future.Bought a set of air wedges and keep one in the car. Shouldn’t have to, but don’t want to get stuck either. I also put a very thin film of silicone grease (less is more) on the shaft/post that locks the door.
Nope, I had it set to unlock always and it still did it to me.Did you permanently unlock the charging flap? If not, does doing so solve the problem? (One person claimed it did.)
I’m having the same issue - just happened tonite for the first time. Don’t know what to do. I e had the car for 3 months - 1 month has been spent at the dealer dealing with recalls and the dealership not having a technician familiar with these cars and how to handle the recalls.I got today my new i4 eDrive 40, and I don’t know how to open the charging port. The hatchet won’t open.
The car is unlocked, and I push on the side as I saw the seller do when I tested it.
Why is mine not opening? Maybe it’s faulty?
Same here. Dealer had my car for a week waiting for the parts. My car had this happen after about a month and less than 700 miles. It took awhile for the dealer to diagnose and get parts but ultimately they simply replaced the plastic charging flap (part 51-17-8-737-953) and the two stickers that have info for what the LED colors mean (parts 71-22-8-848-544 and 71-21-9-323-528). So for what's presumably $70 in parts and a fair amount of labor and it's mine again. Hopefully this won't be an issue again...
