Agreed, and if this were a different situation I would press the issue harder and likely make a recording of the troubleshooting process showing that the door isn't working properly before forcing it open. I'm still just baffled that there is no manual override for this at all.
Why does it lock in the first place??? Seriously, is someone going to stiffen off your electricity? My first Taycan had a push in manual door, it had no lock. There is no need for it.

I wonder how hard it would be to make a push button mechanism that you could fit onto it to replace their mechanical one.

The kind of thing you’d do to your 2001 civic hatch and not your BMW though. Sad

So the issue is kind of a misnomer. It doesn’t have to do with the lock unlock functionality, it is that the push to open mechanism breaks. Even people who are leaving the door in “always unlocked” seem to also have it get stuck closed…. Like me

100% correct! However, it still does not make sense why it locks to begin with.

Funny, I said the same thing to the head of service at my dealer. He gave a quick no on that, said they cannot alter the original design or use of it.

After an evening of deliberation, I decided to open it and see if they will still cover under warranty. What happened with mine was the pin is completely seized so it won’t rotate in the mechanism. Anyway, I decided a fix would be using two neodymium magnets hot glued to the plastic of the door and below the pin. If BMW is going to try and charge me for repair work cause I broke it purposely, I am not going to have them do the fix. I’ll just replace the hot glue with epoxy and reattach the magnets that way. I honestly like this mechanism more anyway. Enjoy a clip of my fix 😂 Magnet Door Fix

I mean it is a known issue. And it would prevent you from continued driving. Do you at least have a video of it not opening? That would pretty much solidify your case.

Does the pin rotate when it locks/unlocks, or when you push to open/close?

It finally happened to me today. Charging port refused to open. I had purposefully set it not to lock thinking that that would ward this issue off. Didn't help. Reset idrive, nothing. Restarted the app, unlock, lock, nothing. What did work was shutting off the permanent lock/unlock. I know it doesn't work for everyone. The other thing I noticed this evening, the car wouldn't unlock when I tried to get in it after a short drive with the key fob in my pocket. I had to press the fob. Not sure if it is related. But it has been acting flaky lately. I did a reset when I got back home.

So you could open it without taking it to the dealership?

I've got to remember to stick my air wedges into the car!

How does "set it to not lock" differ from "shutting off the permanent lock/unlock"?

Good idea for a cheap and simple fix, but it looks like you have used hot glue and that may not keep the magnets in place for very long.
