Well now I've really done it. I ditched both of my Prii... or Priuses....and got the i4 in Nov 2022 and the ID4 this week. I love them both. I ended up getting the ID4 S which is the small 209 mile battery but with a nearly fully loaded option package. Glass roof, active look-around-corner headlights, power liftgate, electric adjustable seats that massage you and have lumbar, extra lighting effects, 20 inch vs 19" wheels, heated seats and steering wheel.... and a few other things.
My capitalized cost for the lease was $35,300 which is 10k off the sticker. VW passes the $7500 federal tax credit thru to lessees and the dealer knocked $2500 more off.
The HP is fairly low at around 200 and it's only RWD.... but honestly I don't feel like it's lacking pep. No it's not nearly as fast as the i4 40 but it just takes off more than adequately and gets on the freeway without an hesitation whatsoever. The i4s are just overpowered. That's part of being a BMW I think... but yes Virginia... there is life lower down on the EV food chain. There's always the AWD 295HP version of the ID4 if you want it and it's just more power than you really need.
Build quality is hard to peg after 2 days of ownership but in typical German fashion the ID4 feels like it's solid as a rock...the i4 is better but not sure $25k better. With that federal tax credit the ID4 is an amazing value proposition. Let's hope the ownership experience is also amazing.... but $35,300 even though it only goes 210 miles is a bargain. VW gives 3 years free EA charging instead of 2 years but heck I think VW paid for the EA infrastructure with their dieselgate penalty money.
