I knew when I saw the subject of this complaint that the complainer would be American 😉

 

I have 16 and 22 oz Conitgo mugs that fit nicely. They come in great colors too.

 

We have quite a collection of coffee/travel mugs, and surprisingly, most more or less fit.

Best fit for 16 oz = OXO Good Grips

Older Klean Kanteen 16 and Hydro Flask 12 both fit, but it's tight

The skinny MIIR 16 oz travel mugs fit with room to spare, but they are much taller than the others

 

My old 1989 Merkur Scorpio did not even have cup holders. Not sure if this is a German car manufacturer design preference

 

Literally every BMW generation on every forum there's someone that complains about the cupholder.

As I recall the Germans refused to even consider putting in cup holders in their cars, but Americans insisted and marketing won! Now we have two cupholders in front console, we have some type of "bottle" holders in the side door pockets, and I'm pretty sure we have two cupholders built into the rear seat center fold down console. Enough about cup holders!

If it helps, many years ago I purchased a Honda Pilot. They screwed up on the lease rate and to compensate, provided me a very nice Honda travel mug. Only problem - it did not fit in the Pilot.

I mentioned this story to my dealer when purchasing and to my surprise, I received a BMW travel mug that actually fits. Too late for you to tell your dealer my Honda story (and count as your own)?

 

To be fair, the E90 cupholder was a disaster. It was this Rube Goldberg contraption with springs, hidden flaps with a 101 ways to break. BMW has improved tremendously in terms of cupholder design.

 

My Yeti mug that holds around a pint fits just fine as do my road bike water bottles.

 

I have a 30oz Yeti knock off with a 2.75" base. Works fine.

 

Oh thank God somebody finally said Yeti... I was beginning to think you were all raised by wolves.

Don’t know why we need cupholders in the first place. Drinking means you have to stop more often for a tinkle.

 

In the US, 200 years is a long time.

In the UK, 200 miles is a long way.

I live in the desert, so hydration is really important... typically a couple litres a day (see what I did there?).

 

Since this thread is all about cupholdes, here are my nice sandstone coasters for Blue Ridge Parkway
