Comparing the BMW i4 to Polestar 2 with this spec breakdown shows where each model stands and its clear that BMW takes the win. That is, if you value performance, something we should only expect from a sporty all-electric BMW Gran Coupe. Polestars electric sedan does however offer more everyday practicality.

The Polestar 2 is a really good car, with a decent price. But I prefer the looks of the i4 (more sporty and aggressive) and would also sacrifice some power and AWD in favor of the BMW. I don't like the back and side profile of the Polestar 2, too SUV like for me!

So only if the price of the i440 is beyond 80k Euro or has > 300 PS, will I go with the Polestar 2.
Someone else deciding between these two cars?
You should be comparing the Polestar 2 and BMW i4 eDrive 40. They are more or less in the same price range. Then the Polestar is a bit quicker but the i4 will have the better range. The i4 M50 has a slight edge over the Polestar 2 in acceleration, but it is a lot more expensive as well.

The new single motor Polestar 2 makes things much more interesting between it and the i4 eDrive 40.

The Polestar 2 Long Range Single Motor starts at $45,900 and comes with 265 miles of range, thanks to its 78 kWh battery pack. The long electric motor at the front axle makes 288 horsepower and 243 lb-ft of torque, which is enough to get the Swedish EV from 0-60 mph in 7.0 seconds flat. Its range and cost put it in line with the Tesla Model 3, while making it competitive with the BMW i4 40.

Its price gets better, though. Being a very new car, the Polestar 2 is eligible for a $7,500 tax credit, bringing the cost down to $38,400. In some states, an additional $2,500 tax credit is available, dropping the price further, to $35,900. Considering that makes the Polestar 2 cheaper than a BMW 330i, while packing similar power and an all-electric powertrain, it becomes a very attractive package.

I once looked at Polestar. When I found out that they were made in China I lost interest. In comparison the BMW i4 will be made in Munich, Germany.

Would you rather buy a German made car or a Chinese made car?
Interesting.
You get what you pay for.
DJI drones, designed and made in China, dominates the market.
Walmart has lots of cheap low quality made in China stuff, because Wamlart wants the price to stay low so they only source cheap products.

I have done a test drive with the Polestar 2, it was one of the cars I was looking at. What dissappointed a bit me was the dashboard. My wife has a XC 40 and the dashboard, controls, steeringwheel were exactly the same.
driving was great though

iX3 is made in China. But still a very good car …

I agree, they should have a different dashboard design. Otherwise why not buy a Volvo
I test drove the Polestar 2, it drove well, more comfortable than a Tesla, but ultimately it was missing any sort of excitement factor IMO. The acceleration curve is the same as an ICE car, to feel any power you basically need to floor it. I think the Model 3 is too twitchy but this was too far opposite end of the spectrum. This car really needs drive modes that remap the curves.

If you want the sharp handling, communicative steering, and crisp styling of the BMW 4 Series but in an EV, the 2022 BMW i4 is a natural choice. It is not only fun to drive but comfortable, and the M50 may just make you forget you’re driving an EV.

One of the big selling points of the P*2 is the availability, based on the configurator. Apparently it's delivery estimates are broken, because once I put down a $500 deposit, I got an e-mail saying the delivery estimate was November 2021. Now, less than 24 hours later, the online delivery estimate in my account has shifted to Mid-May, and at the same time, when I log in to the app, it is saying June.
I think I'll leave my order in place for the i4, and see where things go from here.
TopGear did a comparison between the i4 eDrive40 and the Polestar 2 dual motor, thus answering @MikeC's wishes. The i4 comes out on top in the handling, controls, rear seat legroom, boot space, and takes the overall win while losing points on design. Enjoy!:
So, the Polestar I ordered in January arrived (or someone else cancelled) and they reached out for me to finalize my purchase. I gave them the trade-in information for the 2022 TM3 I picked up less than a month earlier, and they low-balled the trade-in offer by roughly $8,000 - $11,500 depending on where else I was looking.

Yeah, screw that. I cancelled my order, which is fine. Since I got to test drive an eDrive40 this past weekend, I'm completely uninterested in the Polestar anyways.

Good move for so many reasons.
