I don’t know how I missed (and I searched) but there is a pre-conditioning battery option in the I-drive. It looks like it can be used instead of tricking it via the nav system that you’re going to a charging station, but how far in advance should that be done?

It seem to have been added in the 11/2022 update.
Should start about an hour before fast charging.

It’s under charging options in the app section A far right option. I’ll snap a photo. I just picked my car up a week ago.

“BMW specialist in Finland has reverse-engineered from the software (coding parameters) that cars with build date 11/2022 and newer only would get the manual preheat option.

Atleast that is how it looks like. No guarantees whatsoever but just a nice to know for many of you with cars built before 11/2022.”

Doubt that will be the case, there is nothing that would limit them from adding the manual option to older cars, it is just software. More likely is that the newly produced cars are getting the 11/2022.550 from factory while 111/2022.44 is what is currently being pushed to older builds and only the former contains the manual option. My guess is at some point in the future forward the manual option will be added to all cars.

I haven’t seen anyone that had the manual option say they were on 11/2022.44, only seen people which had the option and said which software version they were on say 11/2022.550. It would be very weird if BMW built in an artificial limit in 11/2022.44 for something that is just a software button.

I’ve not even seen a version 11/2022.550.
I know there’s a 07/2022.550 but that’s even older.
Why aren’t dealerships updating to 11/2022.550 then? People getting updated right now are still going to11/2022.44

No idea, I got 11/2022.44 from a dealer the other day. My only guess is that it could be something that isn’t wide release yet.

I did now find someone that said they had 11/2022.27 and had the manual preheating option on a newly delivered car. So it seems weird, I hope BMW isn’t software locking this from older vehicles for no reason, I still think it could be something that is there only for certain versions to try out the feature before going wide.
