My i4 is 3 months old and my sunroof rattles when it’s closed? Anyone else with this problem?

Nope, and mine’s the same age.

Yes. Mine became progressively worse sounding like popcorn popping when driving over slightly rough road surfaces. Per my BMW service center, itis a known issue with this generation of body type They applied a lubricant which has been working for a month, but said if the noise returns that the seal will need to be replaced. I am starting to hear the noise return slightly unfortunately only a month later.

Rattling or squeaking? Big difference. If it's squeaking because it's shifting... the bmw doctor will prescribe a type of 3m tape to tape on the body/paint. (Standard bmw problem lol.)

That's why I didnt want a sunroof.
I always heard stories about rattle, leak or malfunction that could get you crazy overtime.

Regarding the rattle, I really could not handle it especially if the car is really quiet.

BMW Film Tape 833520 83-19-9-407-798 (teflon thing).
3M 06356 Squeak Reduction Tape 5430 (same thing).
It's really just a thick somewhat slippery fancy translucent extra-sticky Scotch tape!
Without getting any tape, some normal car wax/polish around the opening might work the same too.

Hit the sunroof-open switch. Clean the opening, tape to the vertical wall (roof/body/painted area) along the entire big sunroof rectangular opening. Trim the excess and or fold it inwards/under. The tape should not be visible from the outside when the sunroof is closed. For the last 20+ years the story is the BMW rubber/seal around the sunroof is very high quality, durable, made to last forever, and therefore it has a certain hardness since it's made of that everlasting material (becomes squeaky for some lol).

UK owners of F series cars found that the use of wash and wax shampoos made their door and window seals creak. Only wash these cars with car shampoo (no wax). I certainly would NOT be putting any wax near any of those rubber seals. People go on about Gummipflege, but the MB Krytox is a far better product if somewhat expensive. Just lube those seals.
