I actually don’t mind the hump, I’m not a rear driver so don’t really have much of a problem. That said, even if there wasn’t a hump, who would sit in the middle seat anyway, it’s so cramped already. Software, yeah it’s kinda not as smooth, and BMW, would do better to hire more software guys to figure out better updates with all users to fix whatever problems the car may seem to have.

The hump is just not necessary, it makes it more of a hassle to vacuum out the rear and you cannot put as long items on the rear floor without them flipping around. It is very nice being able to put some long items on the rear floor quickly.

The hump actually adds structural rigidity.
It also holds battery cells and cabling. It's not wasted space.

If I need something long to be carried I'll flip the seat down.

Some of us are coming from ICE and the hump doesn't matter.

I think we have decided to give up on i4 and wait for i5. We realize we are in for even longer wait, but I know I will be struggling with the non electric steering adjustment in i4 since my wife and I will drive the car equally. And the rear seats will be a little too small with car seat for our toddler.
With no news of my ordered i4 even getting allocation, I think I am here for a long wait.
Now hear this; My ever non responsive SA/CA texts me yesterday and says 'are you interested in i4 M50 for over $5k MSRP? We have one'. I say, no, I will wait for my spec i4 to be built. But she didn't say anything after that. I mean at least have a courtesy to say, 'ok' or say this is exactly what you built/ or what differences. I am losing faith at this dealership and go with where @ssh ordered his i4 for my i5 order.

I am still debating on whether to take delivery of the Tesla model Y I ordered after the price cut. The car is already in the lot and waiting for me to give a date to pick it up. This car would be a hold over car for us to try out EV lifestyle and the price cut with tax credit was just at the point where we are getting tired of the wait for our other EV orders. And even if we lose money selling it in 6 months/year, it's not a big deal with tax credit. But for the topic of this thread, yes, I did order Tesla just because of the price cut. Still not decided whether I will take the delivery but there are other people like me who are tired of waiting and may just jump ship. For us, we know we won't keep Tesla for long, but for others they might end up liking and keeping Tesla. That is one less order snatched from other EV manufacturers, not just BMW.

If the i4 is too small, it's too small.
I had an E30 M3, E36 M3 and E90 335i and had car seats in them. The E36 and E90 had double car seats.

Yup, it was a hard decision to give up on i4. We really liked it, but it would be impractical for now. Even on in our X5, the rear facing car seat takes up a ton of space. The front passenger seat is uncomfortably moved forward. May be it's just the car seat we have that is too bulky. In any case, we could get another car seat to fit, but the non electric adjustable steering wheel is what the main issue is for us in the i4.

In 21 years of owning BMWs I never had any complains about the sales or service, but this CA we have is just ridiculous. I am hearing not so good things about this particular dealership too. So, it may have gone pretty downhill. I didn't know it was this bad and put my order in this particular dealer because it was the nearest and had very good service there with our previous purchases. Otherwise, I would have gone to another one. We have 5 BMW dealership within 50 miles driving distance from our house and we chose the worst one. FML. The delay and little to no communication from the dealership has also played a major part in souring our experience with i4. We were also ready for iX but we liked the exterior of Fisker Ocean more. Honestly, iX styling is not for everyone. Ha.

We are definitely going to keep either our X5 or 5 series(most probably X5 for ease with car seat and stroller space) for now and probably go with new klasse 3 series or i5 depending on if we like having an EV at all.

About tax credit, we should be borderline or just above the limit, so by we can adjust by playing with pre tax investments and/or selling some stocks with capital gains. We were not really expecting tax credit on i4 anyway so this is just a bonus which offsets the cost to experiment with EV experience. If we hold Tesla till we get Fisker Ocean or new i3/i5 we know we are converts to EV.

I am pretty sure our Fisker Ocean will be built around Q4. It's an early august order for an extreme trim and I have no idea how to know even know where in queue we are. If I had 'One' on order, I would not have gone with Model Y at all. We are getting impatient to try out EV, the wait is too long and no reviews on the car and service is a big 'IF' in my book. Please update your personal experience on the Ocean. I am very interested in reviews from individuals who are unbiased like you and can give a fair comparison between the contenders.

We are really excited to being this EV experience, hopefully we can be done with gas cars as well.

Colorado dealer. Schomp BMW is the dealership.
They were really great till 2 years ago when we got our e92 serviced there and were looking for an X5. Didn't buy it from there, but had a very good experience with CA at that time. No idea what happened, they went downhill pretty quickly looks like. And it has been same experience for others too I hear.
So, avoid this particular dealership if you are in CO.

After mulling this over for 2 weeks and talking it out with my wife and friends, I've decided I'm sticking with the i4. Even though the MYLR is now about $20k cheaper than it was 3-6 months ago, I have been convinced of the following:

• I mostly love my i4. Sure, there are few things about it I wish were better, but it has exceeded by initial expectations. The fact that it stands out amongst the sea of Teslas where I live (NorCal) is a big positive.
• the money isn't so compelling. I could basically get the MYLR about straight up for my i4. I'd probably have to go out of pocket a couple thousand $. If I could put $10k in my pocket, it would have been more compelling. But where the MYLR was $10k more than the i4 6 months ago and is about $10k less now (after tax incentives), the loss on the i4 is too great.
• the biggest factor - I have no idea whether I would actually like the Model Y better. It has advantages, but if I traded an i4 I know for a Model Y and ended up disliking it, I would be amazingly pissed at myself.

So I'm keeping my Sunset Orange e40 and will accept that it's smaller for my golf clubs and has a substandard infotainment system and an inferior charging network, but looks great, drives great, and is fun to own.

In many cases, the CA can make or break it. I had a mix at Schomp back when I was shopping the 330 in 2019, but had 4 different CAs in a 4 month experience!

Definitely the CA I have right now is breaking it. haha.
I am really interested in i5 or the new Classe 3 series, so when the they open up for the orders I would love to get in touch with the CA you have(hoping he/she is still at the same dealership). I am going to order either one of those from Loveland or even Downtown Denver. I am done with Schomp, specially after they had audacity to offer an i4 over $5K MSRP and going radio silent again.

Although I think the i4 is a great car, I do think it is quite a mediocre as an EV. Not great effiency (though it was better than I expected), poor route planning, poor ratio between outside dimensions and cabin/trunk space and so on. The Teslas are great EVs but mediocre cars.

But honestly after driving Teslas for 5 years the i4 feels old compared to those, it is a very premium car but one where the tech feels old. And to me premium isn't only about nice materials and build quality anymore, it is also about the technology experience and the lag of the infotainment system and the overall clutter of the system really is making the experience worse.

I wish that someone would marry the two and create an amazing EV, Lucid seems to be trying to do just that but those cars are bigger than the i4 and more expensive than all Teslas and the i4.

Good non-biased take....I ordered an M50 and its at the US port. However the Tesla price drops now puts a MYP at $14K less than the M50. As much as I LOVE my Dravit Gray M50, I will probably end up getting the MYP.

The i4 is in Germany awaiting a place on a ship. I can't wait. It's bigger than an E90 so size wise it works for me. It checks all the other boxes because I got it fully loaded and individual leather. Was it pricey? Yep. Would I consider a TM3 or TMY instead? Nope, not even a thought.

The Fisker will be an interesting experience and I'll report back. We should be one of the very first folks to get one since we are in the 150ish sequence number with a Q2 delivery estimate. They should have US and EU certification in Feb so soon after they will be delivering. It should be interesting.

I was also a BMW owner for 20 years. I then had 3 Teslas in succession, first a 2 wheel drive Model S, then a 4WD Model S, and finally a Model 3 (which I liked more than the S - I don't have young kids, so the room wasn't much of an issue for me). I now have an i4 e40. I didn't think the extra money for the M50 was worthwhile. I love the i4. I think it's much more of a driver's car than the Tesla. i also got annoyed with the Tesla's focus on tech (bragging about no buttons or knobs). For example, to open the glove box, you need to push the display twice. Moving air vents is on the display. That became a little bit of an issue. Having said that, you won't go wrong with the Y in general, but I love my i4

I have no doubt that blazer will be pretty good. If it were not for my impatience, I would actually order and wait for the lyric and I am still waiting on the Fisker Ocean. But emphasis here is on 'coming this year'. No one knows when will the orders materialize with what kind of dealership markup. i4 was there to order in 2021, but it is 2023 and where is my i4 or many others who are waiting?

I say potentially because might still reject the delivery if I see any issues. I never had any Tesla as a possible purchase candidate, but the sudden price cut plus tax credit and immediate availability(it was ready to be picked up last week, but I delayed it for 2 weeks to see if I hear anything on Fisker Ocean or i4/which I did $5K over MSRP from my dealership) was what made me order one. I see it this as a $45K expense which I can recoup most of when I sell it as and when my actual orders materialize. Would I have ordered it at $65K? Hell no, but at $20K less, it gives me a big buffer to experiment. I am ready to take a hit on the resale on the Tesla when the my actual custom orders materialize. I have no intension of keeping Tesla for longer than when Fisker Ocean is built(barring reviews) or i3 new Classe/i5 is available. Just for arguments sake, I can't justify spending $75k+ (my config) on i4 without availability electrically adjustable steering wheel.
It is just an experiment for us to try an EV while we are waiting on exact thing we want from an EV. There are a couple of other people I know who ordered Tesla model 3/Y while waiting on their Rivian R1S, iX, lyric, Fisker Oceans, lucid etc.
Tesla was very clever to capitalize on their ability to fulfill demand and cash in. I see it as a genius marketing ploy and it worked (at least on me).

So unless you got a "One" you aren't going to hear from Fisker for a while. My Fisker order is locked with a late Q1 or early Q2 delivery promise. We'll see. I'm down below 160 in the sequence numbers so I will get a very early build. Don't know if that is good or bad.

So are you or not taking delivery of the i4 ? Not to beat a dead horse about the steering column, but an electric steering column is something no car below a 5 series has ever had and doubtful will get. BMW segments features by model and target market.
I would venture to say you will never see an electric steering column on a 3/4 or below. If that is a deal breaker you should cancel that order.

As for the TMY, you may or may not take a bath on it. I think the depreciation is going to be pretty bad as Tesla in releasing HW version 4 with radar this quarter with no upgrade path for older cars. They didn't really announce that the cars ready for delivery are already EOL.
