Definitely a large difference once tinted. This is my 5th or 6th car with ceramic tint. I find it much superior at blocking heat than regular tint. Only 2nd time I have tinted windshield. Would definitely recommend it as it cuts down on glare at night and helps keep the car cooler during the day (temps can get to 114F where I live).
Yep, I'm in California too :) I'll take a calculated risk and do a full tint on mine. Some PD's will stop you for any kind of tint on the front, they'll have their measuring device and nail you on the spot.

Installers in my area prefer 3M Ceramic/Crystalline tints and XPEL PPF. I don't particularly care as long as it's as good as any other tint. Which manufacturer did you go with?

I need to take some more pictures but I’m happy with how 30% turned out (all windows but windshield) View attachment 17702
Your pic helped me decide. My car is in right now getting 30% on the side windows, 20% on the back and sunroof, 70% on the windshield. Going to take our Mini SE next for similar percents.
Thanks for the help!

If you've had your i4 tinted, would you post photos with info on the tint levels? I'm trying to decide what to get. Here in Colorado, max legal is 35%.
Just got mine back from the tint guys.
XPEL XR plus.
30% side windows.
20% back and sunroof
70% windshield.
Already noticed the heat in direct sun is almost non existent.
A little overcast today, probably more transparent with full sun.

I believe it was XPEL.

I would still do the front with 80, especially if you're fair skinned since it will block skin cancer causing uv rays.
Several sources from a quick Google search say windshields are made from laminated glass that shields 98-99% of UV (also why regular "Transitions" lenses don't work well in a car). I was curious since they don't allow any tint on windshields in Hawaii (well, only non-reflective on the top 4 inches...). Max 35% on all other windows for a sedan here (and they check at our annual safety inspection).

Dumb question maybe, but was there any additional charge to remove the factory tint or do most detail shops just remove as a courtesy since you're buying their tint???

There isn't a factory tint. The design of the windows reduces light transmission some.

Some international cars were offered rear window factory tint as an option from BMW. But this isn’t tint you can remove, it’s dyed. This is not an option for US cars.

Thanks! That's what I'm leaning towards.

Met @MK-CO yesterday since we live fairly near one another and got to see his M50 with 30%. I don't want to go too dark, and the Oyster should keep the interior fairly bright... but... angsty about it!

I had 35% on my previous car but I feel 30% is a very good balance between not too light and not too dark. At least night visibility is very well with the 30%. My first GTI had 20% out on the back from the previous owner and it was a pain reversing at night, specially before reverse camera days.

I really like the 30%. No issues seeing out of the car. Haven't had any problems seeing out the 20% on the back either. HUD doesn't seem any different with the 70% on the windshield. I have transition lenses in my glasses, no problem with them. Hope this can assuage your angst a bit!
Btw, I can't wait to see pics of your car!

30% front side and 20% rear side. There is a person sitting in my front passenger side window so you can get an idea of level of obscurement if that is important to you.

Posted in another thread but here’s a few of 35% which is the legal limit in Oregon. Windshield only has the factory treatment.

Is that an EA charge site? I haven't seen a site with that many chargers! Were they all working???
Most I've seen is 4 and usually 1 or 2 of them are down. 😆
Yeah! It's less than a mile from my house. It has 8 chargers, 2 of which are 350 kW. In the 4-5 times I've been there, all chargers were operational as far as I could tell. I've never seen more than 4 cars charging at a time so there's always a spot.

I'm very jealous, my stops have been quite adventurous........2 of 4 working and usually occupied. A few times I've been lucky to reach an EA rep and getting one of the down chargers rebooted for use! 🤔🤔
