What Driving Mode do you use most often?

My question is: what driving mode do you drive in most of the time? (Specifically targeted at M50 drivers)

Im wondering because I’ve owned my M50 for almost half a year now and initially I found myself driving mostly in Comfort mode (because efficiency). But then I started trying different driving modes and apparently it doesn’t really make a significant difference wether your’re going 120 on the highway (boring straight Dutch roads, full self driving enabled) in Eco Pro or in Sport Boost. Only in city traffic it makes a real difference in efficiency.

Plus, the thing with Sport Boost is: once you really need it (like when overtaking for example), you’re already too late with engaging the Sport Boost mode anyway! So I was like: why would I drive in Comfort mode when I can drive in Sport Individual (with Sport Boost enabled, steering set to Sport and only the damping set to comfort) so I have the M50s full potential at hand, all the time. So I did that. It makes driving much more fun.

But again the question: what mode do you use most of the time? Just curious here. ✌🏼

I haven't gotten my car yet but I imagine I will end up in sport individual very much like you did for the same reasons.
Great question! I am about to the point you were when you made the switch. I have my Sport Individual set up like you do, but I haven't moved to using it full-time, yet. I may. I'm also playing with B mode in traffic and city driving (relatively rare for me).

There's enough power in Comfort (which I have been using most of the time) that I forget how much more is readily available in Sport Boost.

I do tighten the damping for certain stretches of driving like the curves between Idaho Springs and Floyd Hill coming back home which has a right hand turn as the highway starts up the hill. The road surface is not banked for the speed, so tighter damping gives me a better feel for the road and trust in the grip.

But... on my drive to Copper tomorrow I think I'll play with driving most of the time in Sport Individual and see how easy it is to tighten the damping when I want it.

I have my Sport Individual set the same as you but the throttle mapping is a little aggressive (haven't looked to see if this can be changed 🤔). So most of the time in comfort to appease my passenger (wife!)

For sure when Terry's in the car it'll be in Comfort. She doesn't like it much when I punch it in Comfort!

Same for Vanessa. Comfort mode to avoid getting the Look(tm).

I have a heavy foot so I drive in ECO PRO INDIVIDUAL (comfort climate settings) to save my license and freedom. When I want to drive more spiritedly, I move to SPORT BOOST.

Curious, can you set it so the drive mode is pre-selected when the car is started? Ie, will it retain the last setting used, or does it default to comfort?

TBH, this is likely going to be the main determining factor for me (when I get the car). Im normally too lazy to change things every time I get in a car 😉

It starts up in whatever mode you left it in last.

I drive mostly in Comfort, some in Eco-pro, and a little in Sport (edrive40). I'm not seeing a huge difference in efficiency either.

I think except Sport Boost?

note: you can code a default mode.
Great! That’s one thing that bothers me about my current car. Always defaults to comfort 😕
With the M50, I mainly use Eco Pro. Daily driving, it has more than enough power to pass most of the cars out there. I have been using Sport Boost during colder weather and snow to get the cabin hotter. Without an engine the car definitely needs help with melting snow from the windows. I don't use comfort mode that often actually.

I like comfort mode. I’ve gotten used to the quiet and it makes sportboost feel noisy.

Haven’t tried individual. If I had dampers to comfort and power to sport boost would I get the annoying noises?

What noises? If you mean Iconic Sounds, I just turn them off.

Yeah iconic sounds. They ruin sportboost for me.

Really chuffed with comfort so haven’t really tried anything else.

will try sportboost with iconic sounds off and also have a wee play with individual.

I think there is a reason why the sounds can be turned off without opening the drive modes tile!

Excuse my laziness, but how do you do it?

There's a check box for it inside the Driving Settings in iDrive's Vehicle Apps.

I added the setting to my faves and can instantly turn it on/off by dragging the list from the top. It's been off all the time now for a while. So much better without it.
