I want to install a bass control knob in the location of the front 12 volt lighter outlet. I want to make sure it's not going to cause any electrical problems though. Does anyone know if this is a safe thing to do with these cars?

(This is a picture of the one I did in my Audi S8.)

What is a CEL and what is a "base control knob"? What base are you trying to control?

Surely you can just remove the 12v-socket, as it does not have any kind of "chip". Just terminate the ends correctly, so nothing bad happens.

"Base" should've read "bass." I've corrected that in the original post. It's the knob for controlling the bass of an aftermarket subwoofer. "CEL" stands for check engine light. I would assume you're right, but I don't want to disconnect anything on this car based on assumptions.

Oh I thought about that in terms of errors in the car memory, but didn't get the abbreviation, as in German it is MKL - Motorkontrollleuchte. Same thing, other language.

As far as I know the 12v socket is just connected with 2 wires for 12V. Maybe I'm wrong though and they've changed it. But you will easily be able to see that if you just remove the front part of the center console. Sadly I didn't find any part numbers on my quick search.

Any aftermarket electrical components are generally a bad idea on the i4. If something goes wrong, we found out diagnosis alone is very expensive and any fix makes things expensive. This is generally speaking of course, you could have no issues.

I'm looking for a concrete answer, thanks though.

The 12v socket removal won't cause any issues as long as you terminate (insulate) the power for the socket.

It's an open circuit until you plug something in. It only monitors power draw not the absence of power.

You are good for the removal.

A better spot would be the blank spot on the lower right on the shifter console. Somebody has a cup for storage since that space is empty.

I've considered that area, but I want to keep it looking as stock as possible and I think any knob I put there is going to look aftermarket. What did you mean by somebody has a cup for storage?

Somebody found a cup that goes in that space on AliExpress.

Yes. Really more like a recess where you can put stuff.

Update: it's safe to unplug the cigarette lighter and the usb in the front without disconnecting the battery.

*FYI, the front cover will no longer close with this mod.
