Hey i4 Talk! I recently joined the forum after picking up a new 2025 i4 M50 and I've noticed a few quirks that I wanted to make sure weren't potential issues. i4 has 35 miles and the latest software update.
  1. No layout option in the instrument cluster. Every tutorial video I've seen shows Content | Layout | HUD. Mine is only showing Content | HUD. I've checked every setting I can find and can't seem to enable the layout option.
    1. Update: @smatanovic was right - it's related to being in sport mode. Changed to comfort and noticed the layout option. Thanks for the tip Smatanovic!
  2. Key fob doesn't always unlock the door when I'm next to the vehicle and the fob is on my person. Internet suggests that it's an issue with fob battery or the fob being too close to my iphone (fob is always in other pant pocket from iphone). The car is brand new but is it possible the fob is older and needs new battery or is this related to the iphone proximity?
    1. Update: seems to be working more consistently once I set the car the unlock all doors. Will keep and eye on it and update here accordingly.
  3. When test driving, I remember the car being extremely quiet when idle. I've noticed a loud(ish) hum when I turn the car on and the vehicle climate control is on low/med/high. Hum goes away when the climate control is turned off. Assuming this is normal but figured I'd check!
    1. Update: Responses appear that this is normal, although I noticed a new sound today... almost sounds like antenna interference. Not sure if anyone else has experienced this intermittent sound? Was listening to siriusxm radio if that helps.
  4. Unknown track showing in apple carplay media widget after starting vehicle, turning off vehicle, and starting again. Sounds like this is a general issue across all idrive 8.5 and can be fixed with opening/closing spotify or selecting airplane mode - but curious if there's an actual fix for this.
  5. Windows adjust up and down when locking the doors. After I noticed the windows doing this, I had a notification in the app that one of my windows were down, except they all appeared closed.

Overall, gorgeous car and really fun to drive. Thanks everyone!

On a random note - when I lock the door I notice the window on the driver side adjusts. Is this normal? What's the window adjusting to and what's the point of this?

Confort Key is sometimes getting bugs. Even with battery replacement. Therefore I put the “bip bip” sound on (…no really nice sound for a luxury car) to avoid leaving the car not locked properly.
Unknown tracks, missing cover art…these kind of bugs only with USB key (lot of bug with the USB A socket)

Just because your keys are on your person does not mean that the fob cannot be "asleep".

Give the fob a jingle in the pocket and try again. For some reason, I tend to have better luck touching the back door handle, too.

In ICE cars, the engine is so loud that you never notice all the other noises the car makes. Without the thousands of explosions per minute, everything else becomes audible, and seems louder than it really is.

Frameless windows do a little down up movement when you open and close them. It has to do with air pressure and is normal.

For the frameless windows when opening them fully, I hear some creaking noise from time to time. On the driver window then on rear once right side and or left side. I have the feeling it is changing or it is amplified depending on weather conditions. Can it be adjusted and fixed by the dealer? Or just having to forget about it... Thanks for advice

Learn to live with the CarPlay bug. It's been present the entire two years I've owned the car, across multiple software updates, and I don't expect it to ever be fixed. It's been a known-issue for ages, so I think if they were going to fix it they would've by now.

And yeah, the lack of customization available in the gauge cluster is pretty disappointing, given that it'd be so easy to implement, but I also would be very, very surprised to see it change. Even my old VW Jetta GLI had multiple options for the gauge cluster display :(

Re the key fob not unlocking the drivers door reliably.
Mine does this also, but I think that may be partially due to movement. If I jiggle the key it seems to work (these keys go to sleep if they are not moving).
Others have suggested it is due to the phone also being close to the door if you have the digital key, so try without having your phone with you and see if it is better. I haven't tried this yet, but will do so as well and report back.

What I notice recently is that the car not always closes when I walk away from the vehicle.
Maybe it's the battery?

A quirk that I find really annoying anyways, is when standing next to the car when greeting a neighbour and making smalltalk, the car keeps locking/ unlocking/ locking/ unlocking.. peeping like the car really needs some attention.

That's what BMW call "Comfort Key" 😂😂😂

That's kind of the double-edged sword of comfort access – it's convenient when you want it to work, but pretty annoying when you don't. Unfortunately, as it stands right now the car really has no way of knowing which is which. Of course, geofencing would solve most of this, but here we are.
