no lip, and there's a strip of tape on the front and the bottom

maybe a heat gun can put a little convex curvature to close that gap.

apply heat to the bottom face of the offending edge. The idea is to very slightly soften the surface only. When it cools it will cause the edge to bow up.

try to heat uniformly and err on the side of less heat, since you can repeat with more later.

I would actually love to have something that could hold my longer Galaxy Note up in front of me. I kind of wedge it up there right now sometimes, but its not very straight or stable.

I saw them a while back and decided against it... With my style of driving, things will either rattle or flying out of the tray at the very first turn lol

 

Won't that cause some heat issues? It seems that a fan is behind the screen for cooling.

 

Be careful that the tray or whatever you put in there does not become a projectile when you have to slam the brakes! It could bounce back from the windscreen and do terrible things to the people in the car!

That spot gets mighty hot too. Heat from the sun and the screen as well.

It’s a piece of plastic that is mounted to your dashboard and weighs about half the weight of your phone. It has the danger factor of a pool noodle

 

I do not think I want crap in front of me on my beautiful dash.
I will be installing the removed bottom left box when it is delivered from BMW in a couple of months.

 

I received mine Saturday. Tried to install it last night. Even with a heat gun this does not fit properly. The bottom is just ever so slightly deeper on the right side. This is what created the gap on the top. This also stopped the adhesive tape from securing it down. It was worth a shot though. I wanted a place to keep the handicap tag.

 

I was thinking of 3d printing a small hook, that you could attach to the right side of the tray, that would grab onto the screen support to the right of the tray The hook would be underneath the support, so it wouldn't be visible, and it would prevent the tray from sliding sideways.

Crazy this car doesn't have a sunglass holder near the overhead lights like all Japanese cars. American and Japanese cars have a lot more storage and organizers. I guess Germans put their sunglasses on in the house and don't take them off till they get home.

I also miss a place to put my phone that is visible. Sometimes on roadtrips I like the BMW nav and Waze going at the same time. First car I've own that you cannot lean it up behind the wheel. It almost appears they designed it so you cannot prop your phone for safety reasons.

FWIW, my 2020 Lexus doesn't have one either. The most annoying thing about it was that I never noticed until I got the car home!

 

Originally we had a left hand glove compartment which was perfect for sunglasses, but they took it away in later model years.
Numbers show depth of each side.
