Last week, I had my 2023 eDrIve 40 ceramic coated and partially PPF’ed (front bumper, headlights, and grill). My car did not have Shadowline trim, and the chrome around the windows and grill irked me. So the day before my appointment, I asked them to wrap the window trim and front grill surround in matte black vinyl.

Here are the results.

I decided to leave the satin aluminum hockey sticks as they’re dark enough not to clash with the black elements and I think they look good with the wheels.

I’m pretty happy with it — the overall appearance feels more coherent now.

I love the shadow line. IMHO it adds to the car but others may not agree. I drop in our dealership a few times a month for a quick coffee run. Yes I am cheap but hey we bought 2 cars from BMW ( Mini Cooper SE) last year and was told we could drop in any time for coffee. Having said that I saw a Black Sapphire Metallic i4 without the shadow line and was not a fan.

Looks awesome!
My car should arrive soon and I was lucky to have my dealer change the windows trim to shadow thanks to this forum. It was easy fix by bmw of fairfax as my car was seated for production when the change happens. Once I get I will have windows tinted since my e35 is jet black. I also want to ppf the grill. I think they charge around $200-$250 for the grill from what i've seen on forum discussions ?!

Re: the grille outline, from the pic, only part of it was covered? A bit hard to tell in a photo on my screen, but it kinda looks half black and half matte chrome? I had mine wrapped with actual PPF (guy told me vinyl on the grille will just shred over time from bits of road debris), but he also couldn't completely wrap the sides of the grille outline. He was able to seemingly cover the entirety of the grille surround other than the inside faces of each oval, said he couldn't get the PPF to stick. I'm just curious if yours is totally wrapped or only the front face, and is that what you wanted?

The vinyl (matte black) wrap is only on the outer parts of the grille — the inside edges of the oval are the stock satin aluminum or matte chrome (or whatever it is called).

The whole grille is supposedly wrapped in PPF (clear), along with the headlights and bumper — or at least that’s what they said they were doing!
