Why would you want to do that if you don't want to reverse the car? The button activates the forward camera when you are in D or B. In R it activates the rear camera for panorama view.

Anyway........

 

Stop. Push camera button. Tap car in the infotainment screen to pull up all of the different cameras. Tap the one you want to see.

ETA: I pull up the rear camera when not backing up from time to time as well. It’s not just you.

You can also push the P button and select the camera view you want with the iDrive wheel.
I also do this sometimes!

 

I'm happy to try to help without asking questions . You are entitled to use the installed devices in your car without explanation to others on the forum.

If fitted, select the parking mode view. You can then select the rear-facing camera by touching the MMI or selecting it with the iDrive knob. I think this is what Phlox is saying.

There might be some regional differences here but I don't need to be at a complete standstill to activate the parking cameras.
I often (always) push the Park assist button as I'm pulling into a parking spot to position myself well.

Yeah, about 20 mph - 30 km/h - seems to be around the maximum speed.

 

If moving slowly, we can only get the front view (or direction of travel) when we press the button.

 

In parking mode you can move forward and get the 360 view as well.

 

I think in my car the 3D view is a selection to the right of the camera views after I press the camera button. Can't check it since I'm a couple thousand miles away from it at the moment.

 

You can't keep an eye on the idiot behind you on a motorway.

No mention about motorways or, indeed, any form of viewing backwards when moving from the OP:

You're in either "D" or "B" & come to a stop in a traffic queue...

Thanks for all the suggestions, all very helpful, so easy when you know how. I think i must be too logical, only trying the Camera button. Obviously need a five year old to hand to explain things to me (or to just push everything till you get what you want) 🤣

So, come to a stop still in "D" or "B" hit the magic button "P" which calls up the forward & 360 views. 360 view has icons for the other cameras, select at will using touch or idrive wheel. Nice & easy.

Now back to lazing around, only 31C today 😎
