Hello. I have exactly the same problem with my VW Passat 2015. I use Carplay wired to Iphone 13.
A lot of people with different brands of cars complain over the internet about this problem. Some older cars, some newer cars.
My wife`s Android phone works flawlessly in the same car. So it can`t be a car problem.
On the other hand there are a lot of people that use Carplay with no problem.
I believe it`s a software bug in Carplay that only surfaces in certain situations.

In my opinion the solution is simple. Apple could let the user decide whether to use the car`s gps or the phone`s gps.
This option implemented in Carplay would solve everybody`s problems.

IMHO it will not get hotter. The antenna is just a piece of metal.
Only the CPU gets hot, it doesn`t matter what antenna is being used.

We are off topic now but I think you are wrong.
You are talking about opening 2 games on your pc at the same time. Both use your CPU. Of course your cpu will get more load and get hotter.
If you open Waze on your phone the CPU will get the same load no matter if you are connected to the car or not. It`s just one app.
The antenna will just provide coordinates to the CPU.
Anyway, I would settle with this option if Apple would provide it. It`s better than what I have now.

Just because Carplay is useless to me, I keep in my car a phone with android auto.
Waze on Android Auto always uses the phone`s gps. I use it everyday for more than 1 year and the phone is fine, never got extremely hot.
