Count mine in as well.
My i4 M50 was delivered a week back.
Has 85 miles in it so far.
I was taking it home after Ceramic Coating yesterday when Google Maps in Carplay decided to route me in strange ways. First I thought it was legit and obeyed , but then I noticed it's giving me very strange instructions. My phone was charging via wired USB and sitting inside the cup holders at the time.
I disengaged car play navigation and came home.
Then later in night I used the BMW app to check on the car and saw that it show location 0.5 mile from home.
This morning when I did a quick drive and came back home the location incorrectness was gone.

Clearly there is something wrong with hardware and/or software.
I plan to start asking my CA tomorrow.
If anyone here has followed up with BMW/dealers for further clarity , please share any input you got.

Question for everyone here who experienced this issue:
  • What model of car you have e40 or m50?
  • Do you have a wireless charger and if so, how close to the charger you had the phone when the glitch happened

Well this is super annoying and basically makes navigation useless in my brand new e40. I’m hoping someone has found a fix. I reset my location settings on my iPhone, reset iDrive8, and tried a reboot of my iPhone. Nothing has worked. My phone thinks I’m about a mile south of where I am, while the BMW nav has the correct location. After I disconnect from CarPlay, location is accurate on my phone.

Yes, disconnect -> reconnect carplay worked for me too.
I got hit by this for the second time few days back.
My CA confirmed that the dealership knows about this.
I assume BMW need to fix this in a SW update.

When you say disconnect, reconnect carplay - are you doing that by disconnecting from the bluetooth?

I think I disconnected wifi from phone (iPhone).
It immediately re-connected to Carplay and recovered from the error.
Will have to pay more attention next time this happen as I was driving last time and didn't want be too distracted.

Interesting, will try that if it pops up again. I reset my location settings and it seemed to have fixed the issue, but then I noticed it going wonky again today. I think it's a combination of Apple and BMW causing the issue, but I will report back if I find anything else. I may try the 16.2 beta and see if it is better.

M50
No wireless charger. I also don't connect via either USB typically.
Phone is on magnet on vent.
Problem has occurred repeatedly and with some frequency.
Quite annoying.

So with or without wireless charger this happens.
First time this happened I moved the phone far from my wireless charger & it didn;t do anything.

My first time the phone was inside the cupholder bay
Second time phone was on a vent magnet holder.
Looks like this is also a non-factor

I found this forum via a google search. I’m having this same problem in a 2022 Ford E-Transit. 3 different iPhones, and the car GPS all work fine, but any GPS app over CarPlay immediately goes nuts. It has to be a CarPlay bug.

On the rf sensor or in my pocket or plugged in for charging, the GPS on the phone is all over the place. Really sucks because I use Waze a lot because of all the warnings about red light cameras, speed cameras, police, accidents, etc! It's nice that the BMW Navi has traffic but I need the rest!

Knock on wood, I have not seen this issue since I initially reported it. The only thing I did was reset my location data in iOS and disconnected from wifi/carplay while in the car, and reconnect. Since then, it seems to have stabilized.

What have you tried to fix it? It's part of the communication protocol between the vehicle and the phone when CarPlay is active, so it's actually the interaction of the two. If your native nav accurate?

For me, OEM NAV is accurate. Both Apple Maps and Google Maps via car play wander. Did the reset locations and permissions (which has other annoyances as you might expect) and no love. Powered off the phone as well. No love. Disconnected from CarPlay and no love. Will next try to forget device and start over. Not much expected but the scientific method must be respected.
