That is an option in the i4 but it only becomes available if you are called Dave.

 

I changed my BMW voice to Holly from Red Dwarf. But that was on my Z4. Pick up my i4 in a few days and would think I can do it.

 

You'd think you could, but BMW is an odd duck when it comes to software. According to BMW's AI bot:

 

I'd like it to have a German accent.

 

Oh! I'd like that too. I want a male voice and having that accent would make me pay attention!

 

I think you can select the language option to German, if that helps.

When I navigate I sometimes select a carplay version, which gives my Siri with a female “Austrylian” accent.

I chose that over the U.S. accent, which was too like Hollywood for me.

I wish they offered a few regional accents.

 

Well, it’s been years since I last checked and in fact the Anerican voices are more neutral than before. Not particularly identifiable.

Interestingly, there are two African-American voices, which is okay by me.

I still like the Aussie best

I'd like a man's voice. My car's name is Mr Tanzy (due to it's color). When I say, "Mr Tanzy" and it responds in a female voice it's just not right.

 

My children call mine "Barry the Barge". Very fetching.

 

BMW needs to hire someone with a sense of humor for their human interface.
We can throw pop culture references to Siri and Alexa and get something humorous back.
Just need a little of that flexibility in the bmw assistant.

Maybe not directly funny answers - but quite nice.

 

I tried the "I am bored". It offered to put the car in sport mode.
I could not get any unusual answer what I asked, "What do you think of Mercedes?"

I really like the female voice in my i4.
Quite posh and sophisticated.

I like to pretend I am talking to Keira Knightley sat in the passenger seat (when my wife's not there).

it would be cool if it could do regional accents changing automatically to be appropriate to the area you were driving through.

 

Speaking from an American perspective, that would be interesting in black neighborhoods, chinatown, little italy, etc.
Of course then BMW would get cancelled for being racist.

On a side note, there is GPS programming being developed that will reroute you around neighborhoods based on crime statistics....
