I'm not really sure how helpful this information is to us. I suppose if you can "prove" your battery hasn't degraded, you could try to get more money for the car when you sell it. If your battery has degraded, you probably aren't going to want to advertise that. Furthermore, given the CarData stuff, it seems like the information isn't reliable yet (or maybe ever). Just not sure I want to know. If your battery has degraded faster than average, BMW isn't going to do anything about it anyway. So your just pregnant with information you probably wish you didn't have and you'll be frustrated that you got a bad battery (bad luck of the draw) compared to others which is in fact a thing.
None of the hard “data” in this app is somehow “new.” The car records and reports it- this app is just displaying it in a more convenient way for folks that don’t want to bother with the “car data.”

it’s not surprising to me that BMW is collecting this data (they are, just like every other EV manufacturer… hence the car data reports)… they want it to improve their product and monitor their own engineering and fleet health. This app just gives end users an ability to see it a little easier.

I would not buy or use this app expecting to see some magic “new data” that the car isn’t already reporting to BMW… if anything is going to be more accurate- it will be the bmw provided car data reports.

all that said- it’s fun to see it in charts and easily access it without waiting to have it emailed. Too bad BMW’s software division won’t build something like this into their own app… but alas- we know how they work.

It'd be pretty useful when buying a used BEV, though. Assuming they nail the accuracy of the data, of course.

Well, those of us who already has a hardware tool (OBD reader) what can we loose to join(?)
Compare to Car Dada it is fast, well structured and much more accurate on SoH. Actually Car Data offers a simple rounded available kWh number not SoH. Voltage by cells on different SoCs also very useful data next to many others.
In my case Car Data shown 77kWh available (SoH ca. 91-92%) since de car new that is impossible. So I rather believe Bimmercode on this side.

It’s not working with my BU Wi-Fi adapter. Bimmercode app works fine. Hopefully a bug that will be quashed. I waited 3 minutes and it didn’t connect, but didn’t throw an error either.

@Clerkpalmer You have to differ between degradation and temporary capacity loss due to environmental conditions. So if for example your battery is at 92% in the cold, this may as well just be 5% degradation and 3% temporary loss which can be recovered when it's getting warmer. So while you obviously will not get the 5% back, you can still go back up to 95%.
As far as I know there's no way to actually know what kind of capacity loss there's at play, so it might even be only 2% degradation and 6% temporary.

I haven't tested the app yet (only installed it), but for me the most important thing for this to show would be temperature. Give me an option to see the cell temperature (Min/Avg/Max) and I will buy it in a second and get a wireless adapter. Live data in general. I can get all other data from the online report that I've been downloading on every first of the month to analyse sometime in the future.

So my wishlist would be:
1. live temperature readings for battery AND motor
2. live capacity reading
3. live cell voltage with deviation
4. estimated max charging rate (like VW does in ID7)

Thanks, @phchecker17! I do not see temperature listed in the app, so hopefully they'll add it.

Confirmed from the BimmerCode/BimmerFlow team: numbers read from the HVS control unit.

You can do everything right and have a lot of degradation.
Yes, but we're dealing with the laws of physics here. If you do everything wrong, you are, statistically, going to have MORE degradation.

The Nissan Leaf world was much aided by the Leaf Spy app, which has similar functionality and has been available for much of that model's run (and associated battery teething troubles). BimmerFlow should play a similar role in our market, provided they are tapping into real battery health data, and given BimmerCode's reputation there's not much reason to think they aren't.

I DO predict a lot of gnashing of teeth early on, as people without any knowledge of their original delivery capacity plug in and freak out (or gloat). Because most i4's are just a few months or at most a few years old, people will mostly be looking at the variation in their original delivery capacity. But over time we'll establish actual degradation rates, and maybe figure out what influences them. And in the 3-8 year time frame, having this tool is going to be a big help in the used vehicle market. Certainly the first rule given to used Nissan Leaf shoppers is "get Leaf Spy and an OBD dongle".

I wish this thread hadn’t devolved into a slap-fest as I’m interested in this subject and app.

Just ordered my OBD appliance and am looking forward to better sound and battery info.

No invite to the party for me, no Android version yet.

98,6% on a e35 built Jan 23 delivered late Apr, 6.500 km. 28% of energy discharged from recuperation! I drive a lot in the city in B.
