Positive ending to a Flexible Fast Charger failure. Out of the blue - pun somewhat intended - mine suddenly displayed a solid orange line and an exclamation point. Dedicated circuit was fine, all had been installed by BMW recommended provider. Car had no issues. Took Fast Charges perfectly and quickly at Electrify America. I checked online advice, did trouble shooting, and took car to dealer service. Bottom line is that the Charger did fail and BMW replaced it. They have a rigid protocol that includes a client questionnaire and the service adviser did advise that it could take 3-5 days to resolve. But I was immediately given a loaner and was on my way. 4:30 the same day the car with a new replacement Flexible Fast Charger were ready for pickup. The paperwork that the service department had to complete for BMW was massive. But it was the detailed documentation that undoubtedly informs their engineering team. For me, it was a one pager that described the basic testing they did to confirm the fault. I have been extremely happy with my i4 and the dealership - Rusnak BMW - has been exceptional with every interaction.

It sure seemed to be covered under same term as the battery warranty, which is 8 years, 100,000 miles. I was not charged anything for the replacement. And the dealer provided the loaner without me asking. As the service manager sympathetically said, “the only cost was your time” and three paid charges at Electrify America because my 2 years of free is over. I did not ask about warranty and my mileage was clearly visible, so the calculation sure seemed to be associated with the battery system, which sure makes sense to me.

I think one of the reasons that they have a detailed protocol before replacing is to be sure that the failure is truly associated with the charger itself and not some other or additional factor. But once those steps were completed, the service team at Rusnak was able to get a prompt authorization from the mothership to replace the unit.
