Hitting a pillar from an underground parking :(

I know it was stupid of me to have an 8 AM Teams meeting while driving into the underground parking without paying attention.

The lesson costs $21,500 CAD. Insurance pay for it but I'll pay $1,000 deductible + a potential of higher insurance next year (it's my first at-fault accident, so I hope it won't increase too much).

I’m currently waiting for the parts to arrive (hood, bumper, light, etc.). Does anyone know how long it usually takes? I’ve heard it can be months. :(

Anyway, I just hope no one else drives carelessly and ends up making the same expensive mistake. Stay safe, guys!

(the metal part touches the front tire, so it's not drivable, insurance is paying for a rental car.)

Parts delivery times are much better in 2025 than they were in 2022.

In July 2024 it only took a couple of days to get a new rear bumper and light cluster - I'm in Australia.

I hope the parts come in quickly. The i4 is not my favorite vehicle to take in a tight parking lot. Two summers ago we had an Audi A4 Quattro TDI Wagon with a better turning radius (38.1 feet to 41 feet with Audi for the win) and used it in tight parking garages and underground parking garages in Germany and Austria. The big cities like Munich and Vienna have extremely tight underground parking and demand your full attention and driving skill.

Unlucky, if it had just been a nice squishy human being you hit while on your teams meeting, think how much less damage would have been done to your car...

the metal part touches the front tire, so it's not drivable
And again, the important reason that car is not driveable is because if you hit someone with it, all those exposed edges are going to rip them to pieces. That is why, at least in the UK, that it would be illegal to drive a car in that condition.

I've had a few parking lot accidents, but luckly for me, they were on cheaper cars. I just had to have my rear on my Honda Accord repaired after being rear ended. Much more significant damage than this... I thought $3500 USD was insane expensive, but after seeing these post on i4 talk with extremely minor damage costing many multiples of what I paid.

Wow, $21K CAD. That cost more than my first 3 cars. Insurance premiums are high. Seams like BMW is making a killing on these parts.

Parking Assistant packages should be standard. At least the 360 degree camera on a $75+K car. Unfortunately due to the chip shortage, my car doesn't have it :(. In hindsight, I would have waited 3 more months, but the dealer told me over a year, and that wasn't worth it since my other car was in a totaled and need a car fast.
