Popped up for me today on idrive 8. Seems I'm finally getting them again after I stopped getting them after 03/2024. I'm assuming the dealership installing the 03/2025 recall version software last month kickstarted the OTA for me. View attachment 50638

I have just received this but haven't had time to install it. Right now I am drinking coffee, which is more important for me. Anyway, if the "upgrade" contains what it says, i.e. "Improved AC charging then there is no reason for hurry, since I never had any problems and mine can't be improved. They should instead have a full list of differences between "my" version and the upgrade, because I really think (hope) there is more.

Is the power delivery smoother ?
A short test-drive this evening gave me the impression that the car was a lot smoother, and the power pedal had another better mapping ?

...or you feel those things because you wanted the changes and now you feel you got them...

I mean, wasn't your i4 smooth before? What was the problem which this upgrade "fixed"?

Interesting... For me it shows additional improvement: "Navigation is now even easier to use"

That seems to be for the iDrive 8.5 version. The 8.0 display doesn't look like that, and in Sweden, I have only seem to get the AC charging "improvements", whatever that means.

If B&W sound was coded in, the equalizer settings are also lost. Standard HK EQ is retained.

I needed lots of retries to code everything to what it was, Bimmerutility kept aborting during parameter readout.. reconnecting solved it.

I also received this today on Dutch M50. Only thing I wonder is if I will loose my BimmerCode mods such as LCA, louder iconic sounds in and outside the car, the LED extra colors and the BW sound profile…

What coding option are you referencing here ?

I also received the update notification on the phone. The car was also reporting that there is a new update.

But it fails the update transfer at 10% and then says there is "no update". After a few minutes the update reappears again. Tried it twice but same outcome.

Restarted iDrive with holding power button for 30 seconds before leaving car and will try tomorrow.

Anybody experienced this before? All previous updates installed fine on first try.

What coding option are you referencing here ?

The Lane Change Assistant and Iconic Sounds for outside. So you also hear the sound outside the car when in Sport or Comfort mode.

Yes, I’m sure. Just did the update and need to do it all again tomorrow. Right now it sure is gone. And almost positive that it’s not just louder but you hear it from outside as well as my neighbor clearly heard a difference when I’m coming home and leaving so now and then. It’s clearly louder. So not all channels inside the car So hopefully I’m not mistaken. Will try to make a better video than the one that’s already posted on YouTube.

The i4M50 has always been a little bit hard on acceleration and braking when using ACC - but better when in ECO PRO mode.

It might be that it was only feeling it this time, but since my original software there have been very much improved steering, dampening, and ACC. The very bad torque steering at acceleration was removed a few years ago.

Yes I had that experience a few weeks ago. 25/07 update available.
The day after the update was gone - and car reported at latest software.
Then Yesterday I got the 25/07 update for a second time, and this time it did work.

No problem for me, but the update needs to be downloaded to your phone first and then transferred to the car. The phone must be connected to the car with both BT and WiFi, otherwise it will not work. So step one is to get the update into the phone. When that is ready then you can go out to the car, active the WiFi and BT, go for a drive and back home, park the car and finish the rest of the steps. Very simple and the instructions popping up are clear.

I think BMW is not honest with us. The update was pushed out fast in Europe without any (for us) visible contents. They are mystical about the "general improvements" and the bug fixes. I think they pushed this update out fast to prevent some serious break downs and perhaps a recall. This version has no valuable visible contents. There is no global issue with AC charging which really needed this. Something else is in there which was REALLY important for the car, but we don't know what.

I gave a link to the release notes for 07/2025 (and older releases) in post #18, and said that most of the changes apply to cars other than the i4. As the G26 platform ages, it's (unfortunately) the case that more functionality will be added to newer platforms, and existing platforms will get minor tweaks & bug fixes.

As a software engineer, I'd rather see a list of actual bug fixes, but I suspect the vast majority of owners don't really care, so BMW just talk about general improvements, enhanced stability, etc. - they also use these phrases in previous release notes.

For me personally it seems that the update broke something that didn't need fixing. I experience a very unstable public AC charging experience, every time I open the BMW App charging stops. Maybe it is a bug in the local public charging station and a huge coincidence. We'll see.

My M50 remains on 07/2024.30 with no further updates available at the moment.
