From the Verge. I'm not holding my breath, but I would love to see this in our cars.

I'd rather just have CarPlay, were I a Rivian owner. This is... fine, but it's no replacement. Also, I'm not sure of what use spatial audio would be in a car – my position is pretty much fixed, so I'm not sure what it would do, exactly. Sounds more like a bullet point than an actual useful feature.

I couldn't agree more. Spacial audio is the most annoying audio fad over the past few years. What is even the point? I wear headphones for immersion, not to feel like I'm listening through my device speakers. Why would anyone think this was a good idea? 🤦‍♂️

I will never buy a car which doesn't have CarPlay. Rivian believes their customers want their car environment to be different than the one they use all the time every day (their phone). They are 100% wrong, demonstrated by many customer surveys (and buying habits).

Yep. Not that I was looking to buy one, but this also rules out any EV GM releases until they reverse their pig-headed and customer-hostile refusal to include CarPlay in non-ICE vehicles.

It would be nice to be able to download different streaming music apps for idrive… such as Apple Music and Amazon music.

For a couple reasons, I personally don’t have a paid Spotify account… but I do have both Amazon and Apple Music accounts. It couldn’t be that hard to incorporate those apps… yet we are stuck with only Spotify through a native app. Streaming lossless Apple or Amazon music would be a nice option for those not “tethered” to Spotify.

I think it may not happen for us though. I think it requires a vehicle with more hardware speakers/channels (height/overhead speakers like atmos, along with the related software decoders).

I will take a "plain" Apple Music app. Don't want to give Spotify my $$, but would love to have my music in a native app. I use the BMW nav for EV routing (at least unless/until we get full CarPlay integration) and it's annoying to flip between interfaces.

What do you mean by "full CarPlay integration?" You mean EV routing in Apple Maps?
