i ordered my car on Dec 6. On Dec 8, I was sent a Vehicle Inquiry Status showing following dates:

code 111: 12/07/22
code 102: 12/08/22
code 112: 11/04/22.

I was told original purchaer dropped out. Also says the folowing:

Sub. Req. Prod.: 2023/02/07
Req. Prod.: 2022/11/45.

i am trying to make some sense out of all this and the dealer isn’t very responsive. Anyone know how long it takes in general to get from where I am at to a confirmed build date? Dealer said the Feb date is not confirmed. But that’s all I know. Thx

Short answer: no one knows. Until you have a VIN, nothing matters. Just ask @Techwhiz1 who finally got his VIN today and has been waiting since June 1, 2021 and had the earliest pre-order, order, and production number of anyone on here.

He’s probably getting a 50. Mine is a 40. Just trying to make sense of all those dates and categories.

50 or 40, the same applies. Even when you are 112 and have a production date, that can get cancelled and you move back to 105 or 111 until it is rescheduled. Only when you get to 150 and get a VIN do you know that production is really happening. As you can see from my signature, it wasn't until my sixth production date that production actually went ahead.

That said, getting bumped from your production date seems to be happening less for both models but particularly 40s

I've changed from 112 to 111 3 times. I ordered my 40 on 10/25 and my original production date was 11/17. I'm back at 111 now. Someone else here ordered from my same CA 3 weeks after me and got a vin last week. There doesn't really seem to be any rhyme or reason. Nothing on my build hasn't been built this week so I have no clue why I've been bumped 4 times.

thanks for sharing. Sounds like I need to dampen my expectations. Let me know how it goes.

To get an idea of the process, you will find lots of threads with the title "Build Week xx Support Group". Check them out.

When you are status 112, you get a build week, and a lot of members like to join the support group for that build week to see how others are getting on and celebrate/commiserate depending on the outcome! You can get your build week from the BMW 'Geniuses' or your dealer.

Thanks for that info. Really appreciate it. I keep seeing the reference to ‘geniuses’. What is that? I signed up for My BMW and added the order number. It Shows order received, but that’s all. My dealer acts like I’m annoying him, which is probably because I am.

'Geniuses' are BMW's support staff. I always put it in quotes because, well, how do I put this... 😉

In the UK their is a phone number and online chat. The one thing that they are useful for, is to pester endlessly about the status of your car (so avoiding p***ing your dealer off too much). They can only tell you what is on the system. They have no idea why your production date has changed, yet again, or any incite into what the future holds. I feel the bitterness of my year long wait is showing 😉

I don't have contact details for the USA but I'm sure someone else will chime in.

HaHa. Reap what you sew (BMW, that is). I should have just googled it and I did. So found the number and will begin pestering them tomorrow. Do you know if it’s anything different than setting up an account at MyBMW? Or maybe you do not have that in UK?

In the UK, you get nothing in MyBMW until you have the car and register it with the app from the car. I think it is different in America from what I have read here but I'm not 100% sure and others can better advise. When I read about facilities available in other countries that we don't have, I tend to switch off (keeps my blood pressure down) 😉

Here’s what I just got from the dealer.

The inquiry. I don’t understand why some of the dates are previous dates. Notice in yellow it says status of 102. But there’s dates for Nov circled in red.

and this reply from the sales rep. Question I posed was….when should I expect the build date to be confirmed?
Any of this look abnormal?

You're currently scheduled for wk 7, which means nothing, really, but one can hope...

#15 ·
Of course I see that date, but I’m told that isn’t confirmed and under “my bmw” all it says is “order received“ and looking for a production date.

#16 ·
You never get a 'confirmed' date really. What you have got it as close as it gets, production is scheduled for wk7. Whether is happens then is down to the gods, or BMW at least. It may happen then, or your status will move to 111 or 105 and then you wait for the next planned date. The BMW geniuses are your best bet to check in with but the status is unlikely to change (for good or bad) until a couple of weeks before the production date. Many members have experienced a year long wait and know the Geniuses so well that they exchange Christmas and brithday cards now.

Apologies, I hadn't noticed the dates in your OP (which being American are gobbledygook format anyway 😉) and thought you were currently 112 . I've re-read your OP and I think I was mislead by your listing the status codes in non-date order. My bad, I thought you were currently 112.

So the order for the original purchaser went 112, you took over and then changed the order with a custom colour and the order was moved to 102. In which case, I would expect you will at some stage go to 112 before you go to 150 (but as stated, 112 still doesn't guarantee production will go ahead then). In these circumstances, I am not sure the significance of the 'Sub. Req. Prod.' date and how that relates to a 'proper' production date but I've never seen a WAG before, I just got told what my current status code was. I would guess from what your dealer has said that they also expect it to go to 112 at some stage and at that point you will get a better idea of a when your car might be manufactured.

Sorry I can't give you better clarity than that.

The original requested production was week 45 (the 2022/11/45 means week 45 which falls in November, 2022). The new one is 2023/02/7, which is week 7 in February, 2023. You're currently 102 and @J_P let you know why. You'll move back to 112 at some point and get a new Req. Prod. date. It will be only an estimate. It may change multiple times, and you can go back to 111 or even 102. Eventually, you'll go to 150, at which point the prodDate will be available and you'll know the day your car will leave the factory. Any time before you get 150 and a VIN the dates mean precisely nothing. Many people on this forum (including me... look at my signature info 👇) have gone back and forth many times before getting a VIN.

Talked to ‘genius’. Nice guy. Haha. Basically told me I didn’t have a date. When I asked him about week 7, he said, yah, that’s tentative. Doesn’t mean much. Which is basically what you all said.

I saw another post where a guy ordered a M50 and said his shadow line trim was deleted. Had a Feb build date. Wonder if I’ll get the same message.

Stuff only gets deleted when the order is changed—whether it's on purpose or by mistake—except when supply chain gets in the way, which I don't see happening for shadowline.

I like that the Genius he spoke with told him the truth: it's a 3-cup game until there's a VIN.

Yes. I thought he was pretty straight forward. Said it was going to change and go back and forth a little.
