Does anyone know the volume capacity of the wiper fluid tank? I recently bought some of the BMW concentrate and I want to know how much water to add.
...the answer is ÂŁ4According to Gemini:
Areas with a lot of bugs + a lot of driving will do it. I usually got the RainX Bug Remover wiper fluid to help with that. The OEM fluid wasn't getting the job done.Has anyone ever actually run out of wiper fluid?
I don't think I have since I was like 19.
I wonder whether a spray-bottle filled with your superb anti-freeze could help clear that ridge of snow at the wipers. One great side effect of an electric car is the instant heat. In the dead of winter or during an ice storm I start the preconditioning before leaving wherever I am and by the time I walk to the car windows are clear and melted. It is nice to jump in the car while everyone else in the lot is scraping ice off their windows. Only problem in the cold zone is keeping the wiper fluid from freezing so it can clear the road grime off of the windscreen. -45C jugs fix that problem!
Downside is because there is very little heat under the hood the snow tends to accumulate between the aft end of the hood and the wiper arms.
For me when I have used non-OEM I have ended up with some form of bacterial growth in the tank that then blocks the pumps or nozzles. Happened with my E53 (X5) and I’ve used BMW fluid ever since (20 years) and never had a problem. If the Auto-Glym product contains alcohol then you may well be fine. In Europe at least, BMW fluid contains Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) and this may be the bacterial inhibitor. Is it worth getting the BMW stuff? I generally use Auto Glym concentrate, or whatever they sell at the garage in an emergency. Just wondering if I should stock up on the BMW stuff for winter (UK)?
I mix it in a jug so it is useful to know the capacity as I wouldn't keep left overs. You don't need to know that to be able to mix it. I mean, the volume is changing and depends on how much fluid you have in the tank from the previous fill up, so even if you know the total volume you can fill it with, the information is irrelevant for you . Mix it before filling, and if you have some left you just keep it until next time.
