I don't know how it works in other countries, but in the USA we can order vanity license plates saying whatever we want on them, as long as its not deemed offensive.

So if anyone is interested in a custom vanity plate showing pride that you drive an electric car, you should get the plate now for your current car. Its much easier to transfer a plate from one car to the next, and often cheaper than a plate for a new car.

In addition, the more electrics on the road, the harder it will be to find a unique set of letters and numbers to express your pride.

^I have this plate in the UK for sale right now, or as close as you're likely to get given the cost and availability of plates with fewer digits. Mine is V77OOM and I've owned it since 1999 when it was first registered. I'm open to sensible offers to buy...?

In the UK we get opportunities to buy 'Personalised' number plates every 6 months as our DVLA release them. On the 1st March (and then 1st September) the next tranche can be registered and put on a new vehicle, they've been available for about 3 months to 'configure' and then see if taken or not.

I've bought BU22 LYR for a bit of fun (22 is the year notation, the rest must be 2 then 3 letters), I've no [ahem] connection to Buzz light-year but I thought it was cool for my first venture in an EV, and if V77OOM doesn't sell then I have an option. The only issue is getting a car to put it on in year!

I was thinking FDALEFT as in ---- the left. Then on my other car, I'd get FDARITE.
I can tell the DMV that I work in the drug industry.

My current plate is the same as found on a famous American vehicle in a movie often referenced in regards to electric cars. Guess away.

Edit Mod: Bad language

The North Carolina state legislature has pending a bill to approve the specialty plate below. The four zeros will be assigned a number by the Department of Motor Vehicles, or alternatively the owner can request four custom characters to place there.

Altogether, using letters and numbers it is possible to register some 1.6 million vehicles with this design, about 40% the total cars in the state.

Right now there are about 16000 EV's, so this could work for a while.

I've been toying with:

BOOMUSK
BYETSLA
BMW I4 (amazingly still available)
KILOW4T
121 GWT (I'll have to put a little dot between the first 1 and 2 with electrical tape)

FYI for California folks: "Due to staffing and supply chain issues, the production and issuance of personalized license plate orders will take approximately 6-9 months."

In the last 20 minutes, I settled on 121 GWT but the DMV site wouldn't accept it for some reason (it's not taken - no idea why). Decided that KILOW4T was my next best option and ordered it. :)

In most states we have a limit of 7 characters max, with a hyphen also allowed.
I was thinking "BLUE-PWR.
But people could mistake that for a Viagra reference. :ROFLMAO:
Well, Red and Blue also have political connotations in this dear country of ours, so you may spur unwanted ire. You might even get shot at in some areaso_O

I'm keeping my current plate. It was one of the last plates with the number "666" in it to be made in my province. They decided they would manufacture no plates any longer with religious inferences. - vanity plate or not but I'm allowed to keep mine. Maybe I should have order the red or black i4 to go with my plate. I know I'll be a devil to all the die hard petrolheads that live around me so I think my xxx-666 plate is appropriate.

We have a specialty license plate or we used to, that said Spay n neuter animal friends
I wanted to get a license plate that said "kidz n" But they wouldn't let me. :ROFLMAO:

The 4 digit NC plate would be great for someone who identifies as non-binary too.

I put in my request today for "E PWR4ME".
Unfortunately we don't have a specialty plate for electric vehicles.
Others you can try are VARIATIONS of:
LECTRIC
PLUG-IN
PLUG ME
NOGAS4ME
GASLESS
SHOCKER
SHOCKIN
NO CO2
CRBNTRL (CARBON NEUTRAL)
NOCARBN

In North Carolina a personalized name with 8 characters on a standard plate costs $30 per year.

A specialty plate, of which there are many choices, costs $10 per year.

You can request both options for $40.

Very good suggestions all. I tried a large number of letter options to personalize the plate for our red MY but so many are taken here in CA. I ended up w/RED EE. I have not yet decided to move it over to our Mineral White i4 though. It will always be "ready" but won't have the double entendre'.

Unfortunately here in Cyprus we dont have personalised plates. The parliament decided that it would segregate the people into classes. Not that people buying a €12,000 Suzuki Swift and a €77,000 BMW i4 isnt class segregation anyway, but i digress.

In Cyprus we have to go based on what number series is available.

I had wanted to Get PNP for my car, because NP being my initials (The first P is the series) and also PNP (Plug 'n' Play, yeah yeah I know, Im a geek. The car is one big computer on wheels so ha! The geeks won the automotive war)

But unfortunately I settled for the current series of PET, so I now have a new PET on wheels! weeeeeeeeeeee

Been styling this plate on my Brammo since 2015. Future i4 will get a vanity as well but probably not an EV joke

In the NC House of Representatives there was a bill intoduced to create a soecial EV licence plate, where it passed unanimously. There has been more than 500 applications filed to obtain the plate for one's car.

Unfortunately, in the state Senate the chairman of the relevant committee refused to allow his committee to consider it. So the bill will expire without a vote, based on the prejudice of one man.

500 applications will be trashed

There are a lot of useless idiots in politics.

Colorado does have these. I'm trying to decide if I want one or if I'll keep my Respect Life Columbine plate style (it looks good on my Portimao Blue 330).
(Not sure if this is the final EV plate; I haven't been able to find it on the DMV site.)
