Flexible Fast Charger, NEMA 6-50 receptacle, with 30-amp breakers?

My father gets his new car today. He has a ChargePoint Home Flex on order, but delivery and installation are 4-6 weeks out. Until then, to charge at home, he could use the Flexible Fast Charger, but his only reasonably-placed 220v outlet is a NEMA 6-50 receptacle that goes to a 30-amp breaker. (It's usually for a welding machine.)

Until the ChargePoint is installed, can he safely connect the NEMA 14-50 pigtail of the Flexible Fast Charger to the 30-amp NEMA 6-50 receptacle via a "NEMA 6-50P to 14-50R EV Charger Adapter Cord" (such as amazon.com/14-50R-Charger-Adapter-Charging-Industrial/dp/B0BZCTCQGH/ref=sr_1_5?crid=3HV82PHZYD3R7&keywords=nema+6-50+to+14-50+adapter+ul&qid=1697820737&s=automotive&sprefix=nema+6-50+to+14-%2Cautomotive%2C70&sr=1-5) if he sets the car to request no more than 24-amps (i.e., 80% of the 30-amp breakers)?

This is what I did before my 60 amp circuit got installed . As mentioned, set the limit in the car to 20 amps so you don’t overheat anything. Which is a PITA if you AC charge anywhere else, but still absolutely necessary

Also, be careful as the adapter can partially pull out of the socket pretty easily as you move the FFC around. There’s a reason my electrician referred to those adapters as “widow makers”.

Definitely a temporary solution.

The ability to set to 24A in the car may be limited by the software level. I have not received the latest update - currently at 03/2023.53 - and a 24A setting in the car is not supported. I do hear reports of later versions supporting a 24A setting, but haven't been able to confirm it.

Thank you all. In the end, for safety, I decided not to lend my father the Flexible Fast Charger.

As it turns out, unlike with our i4s, my father's new Ioniq 5 doesn't have an option to set the number of amps for AC charging. It does have three settings labeled something like Full, Reduced, and Minimal. On the closely-related GV60, those are labeled 100%, 90%, and 60%.

The 240v plug adapter for my Flexible Fast Charger has a NEMA 14-50 plug. When connected, the Flexible Fast Charger operates at up to 40 amps. Even if I set the Ioniq 5 to Minimal (which I think is 60%), the car will try to pull nearly 29 amps. That's well above the 24 amps that should be sustained by the 30 amp breaker connected to my father's welding receptacle.

As part of his purchase, Hyundai is providing a CharePoint Home Flex and reimbursing up to $600 for its installation. They will send email in about 10 days with a code that can be redeemed to get the charger at no cost from their store. when it arrives, he'll schedule installation. In the meantime, since there are no DCFC around his home, he'll have to charge slowly. Fortunately, there are free AC chargers at several places that he goes to.
