so far it has given me a heads up a couple times, but i mostly got it for road trips and haven't done one since i got it. I know where the speed traps are in my area but when i'm out in other states i think it'd be helpful.

 

Haven't seen any speed camera warnings, and already know most of the red light cameras it alerts.

My personal favorite is down in Renton there is a highway overpass and the intersection under where the on and off ramps meet the road has red light cameras. When you are driving on the highway, it alerts me for the cameras underneath the highway I'm on.

 

How does this compare to the free options out there? Ie. Google Maps or Waze? Those have built in camera indicators, usually community sourced.

 

I dunno in terms of accuracy coz i don't use those apps. But the main thing is this is an inbuilt function of the car. You don't have to be actively navigating anywhere to get the warnings and don't have to be running a specific app in carplay/android auto.

 

How do you get to this menu?

 

Once you purchase it try to update apps and services from "System Settings> Update apps and services" then the app should show up under all apps.

The name should be "traffic camera information" for the app. Then this menu will open

 

I had this when I first bought the car but yeah realized it went away so saw it in the store and actually bought the one year subscription today.

 

Interesting, when did you see it available? Because I did not have it when I bought mine and I never saw it active before

 

I just remember getting warnings about speed cameras/traps (then a distance was quoted, so mostly with traffic lights etc). but it's been awhile. I did 't even think about it until, like you, saw that it was being offered in the connected drive store in the app (think I got an email maybe too as a reminder).

Will see how things are on the (10 mile) drive home from work.

 

I have found the feature to be a bit unstable here in Norway. I once reported that several cameras were missing (none of them new) while others were detected in a long-trip, and was told to try restarting the system. On later trips the same missing cameras were identified. So when driving in new areas, a restart before driving may me a good idea (although I think that is just the standard first answer and not a solution to a problem these days - try a restart)

 

LOL that sounds interesting, also funny that the restart actually worked. In my case it seems to work fine till now. Let's see how it holds when I travel out of town.
