Mute navigation voice and stop turning the music down

Hi!

So I've just gotten the i4 m50 xdrive, 2024 model.

I can't seem to turn off the navigation voice guidance at all. I found the settings to lower or raise the voice volume, but there's no mute or turning off?

Also, every time the voice talks, the music is lowered to almost completely quiet. I've tried to mix with the settings but it doesn't do too much.

I've now put the guidance on "call signal" so she doesn't talk, and it's just a beep whenever it wants me to look at the GPS, but it's extremely frustrating for the music to always be lowered.

I've googled like a maniac, and can't find anything for the new OS

Anyone else can tell me how to disable sound alerts to the GPS completely, and/or ensuring it doesn't lower the music volume?

You are digging WAY too deep if you can't find the first.
It should be on screen as soon as you hit the 'NAV' button on the center console.

Like @rollermonkey says, the first menu is part of the main Nav screen but is hidden after ~10 sec when the map goes fullscreen.
Swipe in from the right edge of the display to show it again, OR nudge the iDrive wheel to the right.

I am afraid that is not the case. I think that at least for iDrive 8.5, they eliminated the option. I used to occasionally turn off the NAV spoken instructions, but I think that as of the latest update, the option is no longer there.
Please don't say this......

I've been terrified that this would be the case; that they are enforcing audio signals to their iDrive Map.....

I don't want to have to use Android Auto, as the heads-up display is basic and I simply love the iDrive HUD visuals when navigating, but this WILL force me to simply use AA as the default.....

I was able to turn off the nav voice just the other day (in the middle of a phone call). (idrive 8.5, 07/2024 software)

The option to mute is definitely there for me in iDrive 8.5.
Have you gotten the side menu in the Nav screen to show up @Mithras90? (See instructions above from me and others)

Possibly you could also try asking the voice assistant to mute spoken instructions. Not sure if that works though.

@Phlox

I'm suspecting that @nowhere_man is correct; it seems like it's not possible at the moment for me to actually mute the voice.

When I try to lower to volume on the voice while she's talking, I won't get below a certain threshold and it's clearly indicated:

That threshold dissapears as soon as the nav sound is ended, and the music volume is activated again.

This is the Nav menu I have on the right hand side when on the nav map:

Clicking on navigation obviously just brings me back to the nav map, and holding it does nothing

Holding the nav button only allows me to switch to AA:

I'm suspecting this is an EU thing for 8.5 (I'm Swedish)

I probably have to call their support, this is ridiculous

@Phlox

This is the Nav menu I have on the right hand side when on the nav map:

It's not an EU thing (I'm Swedish too btw) - BUT I think I see where you're going wrong!
The Nav screen you have in this picture is not going to show you the side menu with the option to mute.
Press the MAP button by the iDrive wheel (the physical button), then you should see the right-hand side menu with additional options. The top one will be a tick box for Spoken instructions.

Tap the up arrow/triangle I have circled and you will find the navigation instructions mute option. I'm not happy they moved it as it was very quick and easy to get to the old way. The screen is wide enough that the previous menu didn't take too much room.

It's major UI changes like this that explain why the manual is so vague.

This didn't happen, when I pushed the MAP button I got the same as before, So maybe we have different versions? BUT, I finally figured it out..... it was a mix of me being completely dense AND the UI being absolutely weird.....

Then the destination/battery info will be on the screen....

Press the Up triangle button on the right of this little info banner/bar and it'll show a small menu. Press the speaker button on this menu to mute the navigation girl/voice...

YES; THIS WAS IT! THAT DAMN SPEAKER THATS ONLY AND EXCLUSIVELY AVAILABLE ON THIS FRIGGIN SCREEN!

Here I thought this was MUTE THE ENTIRE CAR when I first saw it, and I completely ignored it from the very first second I saw it. The worst part is, I've been going through THIS VIEW to get to the SETTINGS through the cog wheel several times, and on that page there is NOTHING!

None of this was explained in the manual, NOR on any of the google searches I've found, but the WORST part is that CUSTOMER SUPPORT didn't know this.....

ANYWAY, ISSUE FINALLY SOLVED! THANKS GUYS!

EDIT: YOU CAN MUTE THE DAMN THING BY CLICKING THE PHYSICAL MAP BUTTON TWICE! WHY THE F*CK IS THIS NOT MENTIONED ANYWHERE?

Hey 2 or 3 times before this i even ended the navigation just to get the bot girl to stop talking in the 3 way conference call! Luckily i knew how to get there without the navi lol.

Pushing the map button twice to mute and unmute the spoken instructions is a game changer. Now I don't have to waste a shortcut in the pull down menu on this.
Hey BMW if you are listening, we like physical buttons, they are useful, please bring them back before I need a new car.

So I tried the double press of the map button this weekend again and it seems to mute her if she's currently speaking a direction, but the next direction still is spoken. Played with it a bit but ultimately went into the screen and muted.
