Parking Assistance Package not available

Hi guys,

I'm based in New Jersey and I just got a call from my dealer stating we got an allocation to put the build into production. However, they stated the parking assistance package may or may not be available for an August build. What are your experiences with this?

So if you have it in ur initial build and BMW says its not available. cant you push your order down and wait for it to be in stock? Or do we have to refuse the allocation?

Not exactly true.
My car was scheduled for production and the week before was returned to order received.

Until it starts and changes to 150, all bets are off.
The factory can stall production, but you can't.

Waiting for my M50......

My dealer advised me not to delay my build, because there are no guarantees the parts will ever be available. And there’s also a chance you’ll be put to the back of the queue if you ask to postpone.

I haven't seen it in the mygarage app. Waiting to hear from dealer,if the cost sheet shows the deletion. Mine is due to go into production week 24, and would like to know beforehand. I'm also thinking, the sooner I know then I can decide about trying to locate a demo for sale. One way flight shouldn't cost too much, and then the drive back would be a good road test for charging stations.

This all makes a lot of sense, but what is not clear is can they put those sensors and chips in after delivery of the car. It would mean of course having the car in the shop for a bit, but it would be better than not have the features at all.

My issue with these features getting removed is this:

They are only removing them from SOME cars. The M50 are still getting DAPP and PAP.

That means the chips or whatever is actually available. They are choosing not to get enough for both trims, EVEN THOUGH IT'S AN UPCHARGE.

I'm 100% fine with raising the price if they must, but just deleting the option from one but not both is bull$#!+.
They're saying $1700 for the package is acceptable, but only if you ALSO pay the extra $10k for a bunch of unrelated things.

I wish BMW would do what Ford is doing with the Mach-E during chip shortage, they are still leaving everything in place for the parking assistance including the 360 cameras, and when the chips are available they can be installed by your local dealer, not removing the whole capability from the car, they are crediting $375 from MSRP. They are still offering DAP (BlueCruise), for them is not affected.

I don't want DAPP, hence posting in the thread about PAP.

Unless the difference in chips requires a complete redesign which isn’t possible in the current design platforms.

With those waiting for over a year, it‘s not about the time till delivery, it‘s about the time since ordering. It‘s about transparency and the possibility to get a Plan B car.

If they‘d tell you in March, that they may need another year or get the car without DAP, that‘s fine. You could order a Tesla or another car for the time being. But they didn‘t tell you anything.

Now you car is being built and right at that moment they will tell you „by the way no DAP, accept it or cancel it“, and now you‘re just fked after 1 year of waiting believing that your dream car will be delivered soon.

They know exactly what they were doing, they dragged ppl along , so they didn't cancel or put deposits down elsewhere.
Now that the genie is out of the bottle, the edrive40 customers are great wait and receive with all kinds of ordered parts missing. Then what's your choice, great I'll order another EV and wait another year or more or accept their puppy sales tactic and accept the car , and here in Canada there is a fair price increase on the 23 i4_eDrive40 model.

Exactly. This is what gets up my nose. They sell you a car that doesn't yet exist, but provide no info at all. They don't even deign to accept your order until they have a build slot they can offer. But when they do assign you a build slot, they don't even tell you the car will be missing bits you ordered. I wouldn't have known about the missing DAPP and PAP if it hadn't been for you guys on here. Even my dealer didn't know!

I'm hovering on the edge here. I'm so utterly fed up with BMW, and I'm certainly never buying another new car from them. I appreciate they have supply chain problems, but there are ways of managing these things that won't upset people as much, or alienate their buyers. Simply pulling the options from MY23 cars, when for some of us those options were what swung the decision to purchase in the first place, is a stupidly short-sighted approach. They could fit the parts and just add chips later, surely? Or give people the option? Some will be happy to forgo the bits they "can't" supply to those of us who've ordered the eDrive40, for others it'll be a dealbreaker.

BMW really need to work on their customer relations. Because their whole system is pants. Stupid arrogance on their part.

I'm going to start test-driving some more cars. Hell, I might even put a deposit on a Polestar 2.

Just do not neglect the fact that the features still appear in the UK on the LCI 3 series with iDrive 8.

So who made the call to dump the features?

Waiting for my M50......

The frustrating part for me is BMW offers so many options in the car (wheels, interior trims, fancy lights, seating material, etc.) that we spend weeks trying to plan and configure the perfect car. When we finally have our mind and heart set on something, they tell us we can’t really get that any more. Definitely not the “surprise and delight” model companies used to emphasize.

Not sure if y’all heard as this is an older string but all options are back in for MY23 (iM50..e40 may have a few dropped). Happy to post the guide (although can’t vouch fact that it won’t change again but as of current…)

I will surely not accept a car without DAP, but they will just sell it to someone else. But I'm getting the next car for the next few years, so if it won't be an i4, it maybe any other car from another manufacturer who will then make money from it for the next 8 or so years? And I won't be the only one.

But yeah, right now they don't care. They sell 100% of all cars, no matter what options they have. And they will for the next few years. So as a customer you can either be lucky to get what you want, or force them to give you what you ordered by going to court with it etc. But changes are you're not going to win.

Push comes to shove, I'll get more joy out of telling ppl , why I sold all my BMW vehicles when they ask , where is your new car and where is all the other cars. This was suppose to be my Dream car and my last Car and it looks like it ain't happening, so yes, I'm a little ANNOYED at BMW as a whole from both the dealer and all the way to the top.

#73 ·
Well that's just how it works, go tell everyone you know :) So when the tides turn all the cheated customers will remember and not come back. At least in theory. I will do the same if I don't get my i4 like I ordered.

But to be honest: people forget. Some years ago everybody said "no more Volkswagen", but today VW's selling more cars than ever before. So I guess BMW will not regret these decision and will continue to sell cars.

I think this is soo true. If you look at what BMW is offering in its I4, there isnt any other luxury manufacturer that is coming close to the specs for the price that they are charging. The Mercedes Equs, Taycan and all 20-30K over the I4 M50 price. Audi etron and Ipace are close but if you dont want an SUV, then there arent many left except for a Tesla Model 3 which we all know how it is. So unless people are going for Fords/Hyndai and Kia, the higher tier is skewed pricewise and BMW sits on the lower price point for all the features and build quality it provides. Soon, people will forget about the botched release and delays when they finally get their cars and BMW will continue to reap profits unless the other come down on their price and compete directly with the I4 price point

This is an odd attitude. You think this was some kind of BMW management conspiracy ... related to ... parking ... sensors.

Yeah, no. This kind of thing is happening at all levels in all industries. BMW certainly expected to have enough parts. They're not leaving the hands-free tailgate opener off of the iX just to try to upsell the i7, either. They're doing what they can, and what they can is this.

It's entirely possible that this shortage will be resolved before the end of the model year, and availability will return. The fact that availability on the m50 has been restored already points to that. Catering to upper markets first is the norm for luxury brands; we're just lucky they have enough of the shared rear motor to keep putting the e40 out at all. There's strong evidence that the shortage of m50 deliveries is related to the iX's need for that front motor and a short supply of them.

That also isn't a conspiracy -- it's just economics. (Now, whether capitalism itself can be seen as a conspiracy by the wealthy is another topic entirely, but...)
