I can't answer that. Both my hubby and I test drove both cars and noticed it. Maybe because the front engine is closer to the driver? (totally guessing, but you asked.)
In the i4M50 front drive unit is only used when necessary (more or less never/ less than 1 percent of the time).
I assume the same in the x40 - so something else must be reason for more noise ? Tires ? or something wrong ?

Maybe? So, what I'm reading is this was the only time anyone has experienced the x being a bit louder than the e? I went for the eDrive mainly for the extra miles it offered.

Really? Um. OK.

Conniption
Dictionary
Definitions from Oxford Languages · Learn more
noun-informal•North American:
-a fit of rage or hysterics.
Ex:
The wife had a conniption when she saw how much my i4 eDrive40 cost. She would have been even angrier if I'd paid even more for the M50.

(Not based on a true story.)

Well my bad. I must not have finished my first cup of coffee. I thought you were referring to me. (most people assume the i4 is my hubby's car and he picked it out.) Please excuse my jumping on your comment.

The wife's conniption over the price is the quieter bit, not the actual car itself.
😉
The context gives the meaning but its nice to come across the odd word I have never heard of.
