Did the i4 get the 11/2022.60 update? We got that over on the 3-series and M3s in Canada and some initial reports are that people haven't seen the drift yet with that. I got the update last week and haven't really seen any drifting yet when I have used CarPlay, though I've been using Android Auto most of the time, so probably don't have the best data yet.
The SIB referred to 22-11-530 I-Level update, which from what I've read also updates the software to 11/2022.53, whereas the update we got was to .60 ...though at this moment we neither definitely know what else the I-Level updates v/s a standard software update and even how much value to put to the SIB as no dealer in NA can confirm it.
Wondering if anyone else has the update and have been seeing a difference - don't want to get my hopes up again!!
Would you mind clarifying some info? I’m not sure I understand. You had wacky GPS issue on your Android thru CarPlay previous to the update but did not have any after update?

No no, what I meant was that I was getting the wonky GPS thing on CarPlay since the day I took delivery of car (literally started on the drive back home), connected to my iPhone. I have an Android work phone as well and since Google Maps on Android Auto is not having such issues - I've switched to using that phone for my drives. Not ideal at all as I have to use an AirPod for calls, but the GPS issues were just too much for me.
Post the 11/2022.60 update I've switched around to using CarPlay from the iPhone again on some of my routes (after looking at some forums where others are saying it's working better now) and it hasn't thrown me in river yet, but it's only been 3-4 days and I have also gone 3-4 days earlier sometimes with no issues on the GPS via CarPlay. So checking to see how it's working out for others - I will report back if it stays that way for longer.

Interesting experience yesterday. My son picked me up in a restaurant in downtown NYC and then drove me 2 hours out to East Hampton. For a change, he was the driver and i was the passenger and I got to fiddle with his iPhone set up.

He arrived cursing out the car as he drove in circles around chinatown - he could not get proper positioning from Waze, Apple maps or google. When he finally found me we stopped looking at any mapping software and just let CarPlay play his music for our drive. About an hour later we started getting "red light camera" messages (from waze) popping up over the music display despite the fact we were on a highway (the LIE). Obviously the making was still wrong. I shut down his iPhone's wifi, which disconnected him from car play. We then reconnected and low and behold, the mapping issue was fixed 100%.

I note this experience because (1) the problem persisted for over 90 minutes of his drive; and (2) resetting the car play connect was a perfect fix, once we did it. I believe my son had tried that earlier disconnecting and reconnecting CarPlay earlier in his drive. But what I did differently was the effectively disconnect the phone from its wifi connection to the car. I wonder if this might be a fix for others, or me the next time?

Just a thought - I have been following the thread with interest - tho I have no problems whatsoever, use CarPlay every day and it works without fault. I haven't exhaustively scanned the thread, but I had a good dig back through the now 21 pages of posts - is this exclusively impacting North American i4 owners? Anyone outside of the US and Canada experienced the problem? I couldn't see a single post from outside, but I did only scan. I was just idly wondering if it was tied to the different GPS systems in use between NA and Europe.

I’ve been corresponding with someone on twitter from Canada. It seems they have had this issue longer than any of us. So anecdotally I believe it’s in Canada as well.
I kinda grouped both together into ‘north America’. I’m just aware European models use the Galileo GPS system now and didn’t see or read anyone in Europe having this problem.

Sorry, yes you said North America. Didn’t read thru. Early morning here.

I've taken my I4 to BMW twice now and the second time they did a complete factory reset from BMW to try and cure this issue. It didn't. Carplay GPS mapping is still faulty on occasion. I've been to the dealership twice now for this issue. They admit it's an issue with Gen 8 software but are also quick to point out it could be Apple, the apps themselves, etc. It's definitely the Gen 8 system....because if you turn your car off, Waze and Google Maps instantly recover on your phone and you're back to normal GPS routing. Anyone know if "Lemon Laws" cover this sort of thing?

Back to trying to be helpful at finding a solution - my personal experience is that the latest remote software update from BMW, which I believe I installed in January, made the GPS issue very significantly worse. I got my car in September and only used to have the GPS issue on occasion. Since the update, I have had the software issue 90% of the time. Obviously I cant prove anything as my timing is soft, but it seems to fit.

Did anyone else find the GPS issue getting worse over time? Obviously more users came on line in later months.

I’ve five

I’ve been doing a lot of research regarding lemon laws. I am in the process of suing BMW. You can DM me privately so as to bore everyone here.
But the main issue at hand is semantics. When BMW speaks to everyone they are claiming the auto is not “defective” when in fact it is. There are various criteria to be a “lemon”. So. It will be arguing if the issue “impairs both the use and value of the car”.
My legal letters are going out tomorrow. Feel free to DM me

11/2022 SW introduced this bug. When my car had 07/2022 this issue wasn’t visible to me. It was definitely caused by BMW SW.
I wouldn't say introduced because I did have the problem a few times pre-11/2022, but they were few and far between. Post 11/2022 it seems like close to 75% of my rides or more are affected,

I’ve had my car since November and just started having this issue yesterday. I’ve tried a lot of things (reboots, force quiting apps, resetting the software) and nothing had fixed the issue. The iDrive 8 navigation is correct but Apple Maps is not and when opening the BMW app it shows my car in the wrong place. I’m on software version 11/2022.44.

Try rebooting iDrive 3 times (holding down the power button and going through 3 cycles). Don't know why it needs it thrice, but that always fixes it for me... till the next time it happens a day later.

As I said earlier, what worked for me yesterday was turning off wifi on cellphone, getting phone off CarPlay, and then reconnecting. I am driving a few longer drives tomorrow and will see what happens. If reseting as I suggested fails, I will try a second and third time as well. I am guessing it may be a handshaking issue.

You can just toggle airplane mode on iPhone. It fixes mine also but this is just temporary, it doesn’t always work meaning you will also have to reset iDrive too.
