Just checked my order, slated to be built in early April - 'iDrive Controller non-touchpad'

I didn't really use my touchpad controller until I saw this thread.
So I tried it a few times and now I know what I've been missing.
I think I'm going to have a word with my dealer when my car comes in, that when the touchpad version is available he has to switch it out. I don't like losing features.

I am not sure I will miss it when there is a touch screen. But having the option is nice.

I just got my G30 delivered with 6UX so no touchpad functionality on the controller. I have swapped out the controller with a model that has a touchpad which allows ‘handwriting’ so all is fine from a hardware perspective. The option to activate the touchpad is not visible in the menu configuration. Is there a way to code this?

When you say "swapped out the controller with a model that has a touchpad," where did you get the model with the touchpad?

I owned a BMW 530e prior to my new 545e on which I had the controller with touchpad so I looked up the original BMW OEM part number 6582 5A14E64-03 and got the same. It works fine, except that I can not activate the option in the car configuration menu.

Found this thread, I recently took over an order that someone had cancelled, so was able to compare the VIR from when it was a 2022 model to the VIR now that it is a 2023. The 2022 model VIR had 6UX listed (iDrive without touchpad). That code is gone now on the 2023 VIR. Does it mean that when I eventually get my vehicle, it will have the iDrive with the touchpad?

6UX is/was listed as part of the configuration sheet due to the lack of electronics to support the touchpad of the iDrive controller. As far as I know, not all models were affected, but those that were did get this code. However, it could be that BMW has given up on touchpad with the iDrive controller all together for the newer models and now goes for the touchscreen only and simply provides a controller without touchpad functionality. If Iwere you, I would double check with the dealer which one will be supplied.

I use it quite a lot, not for letter input, but for pinching and zooming the map (I don't have a touch screen).
Wait, what? I did not know it did this!

[EDIT]. Oh. It doesn't. Not on the I4 anyway.

I’ve asked the geniuses if this feature was restored for 2023 as I don’t see the 6UX code on my VIR. They are “researching the question”

@tonyquan
Any news from the genius' research?
I still miss it from my old f30.
Both the Hand Free Tailgate and iDrive Controller Touch seem to be back as of last week (I only know of the M50). This has been cross-referenced by several sources. However, this can be taken away just as easily so don't count your eggs until you get a VIN :). I would say if you were to get a VIN in the next few days, there is a high likelihood you're getting those features, beyond that, it's just a hope you will. My scheduled build week was pushed 10 weeks so I don't take anything as factual anymore (when it comes to BMW builds).

@ssh and it wasnt an early car before they where both removed?

@cruzer666 I've had my car since 28/3-2022. I've got the handsfree tailgate and every other option. It's only the iDrive-write-button that was removed when my car was produced 2022-02-23.
Glad to read it's back. Now I'll try to get hold on one...

Neither are listed either way on my VIR from yesterday.

I presume it's not listed because BMW can include or exclude it at will.

I also see no $100 credit.

Waiting for my M50......
