I, for one, am hoping that the buttplug-shaped renders are bogus and the real deal adapter isn't so ridiculous or oversized. The Lectron adapter is already heavy AF even though it looks to be half the size.
I am sticking with my Lectron prediction. I am impressed with quality of Ford J3400/CCS1 adapter. Lectron has also spooled up mfg. Ford delivered a cumulative 60,000 in Jan since it announced adapters and then added another 80,000 in Feb.

To be fair, FORD announced adapters over a year ago. My adapter was to be a companion to my truck which I took delivery of in April of last year. I just received the adapter last month.

No doubt things are better now though. It seems that whatever issues they were working through (silently of course) have been solved and they did deliver in bulk the last couple of months. All of the Lightning and MME backlog has been flushed as near as I can tell.

I remember when I first saw it. It was just a random post on Twitter. There's no corroborating posts from other sources, so it could be completely fake.
That’s okay. Thanks for checking.

At least no one would steal them.

Yeah, I posted that one. It could still be a generic render, but this is what it was sent to me

I am not excited anymore about BMW getting access to the Tesla network in the US. Normally I would be one of the first to try to get an adapter. Now I am not even planning on getting one. One of the reasons is the fact that the non Tesla providers are getting better and better. The new non Electrify America providers like GM are pretty good. The other reasons are not suitable for this forum.

Understand. But since my daughter will be starting college this fall and be ~225 miles away from SF in SLO, the CA highway 101 EA and most other DCFC sites are 4 stalls or less. This is just not enough chargers per site in 2025 and since they are designed for highway travel, EA won't apply the 85% SoC limit rule (wish they would) to accommodate cars with small battery packs. Granted, I can make the trip one way easily without DCFC, and most likely be able to get L2 overnight if I stay at a hotel, but I want to have more options, especially if I decide to visit Santa Barbara and return to SLO for the night. I don't get the sense any other network is going to add sites with as many chargers as Tesla. I hope access comes in May or June.

I would agree with this. The less money I can give Elon the better

Sure - makes sense, but at least where I live 4 stall EA sites don't cut the mustard on road trips. The minimum DCFC charger count in 2025 is 8, and even better is 10 or 12 - 4 is woefully insufficient. Only Tesla correctly sizes the DCFC sites in CA around me.

I've used the NACS in PA and central NY, they finally have them in Maryland along the I-95 corridor. I have a NACS to CSS1 adapter so I'll give it a try just for fun, especially since they are in Wawa and RoFo parking lots. It will definitely help on weekend drives, but these tesla lots are packed during the normal commuting hours.

And it looks like Walmart is going to be rolling out chargers that can charge 2 cars at once but one cord is CCS and one is NACS so the adapter will be useful beyond Tesla chargers.

Absolutely.

Oh great.

Do I want to give my money to Musk or the Walton family?

Haven't given Walmart a penny or set foot in one of their stores in over a decade now, I think.

Meh, looks like EV charging will be a loss leader with the hopes you buy from the store while charging.

I understand. I would prefer to get to my destination, though, without being towed.

Sadly unless you are riding a bicycle or charging off home solar, it seems you will have to pay some oligarch for fuel or energy.
Not always. My city has a utility. Much cheaper than PG& E.

We also have a public utility where I am, though I couldn't say for sure there isn't one or a few people still getting rich off the energy sales.

Same here, my county runs the electricity district in my area, so my charge is mostly split between rooftop solar and high-percentage hydro-power.
