Note that Porsche is "soft launching", which means that initially the Tesla app will be required to charge. That likely got them going faster. Hopefully BMW is not trying to integrate into the MyBMW app right away.

Because BMW makes the car and BMW made the promises about access. And whatever demons are involved in working with Tesla, almost every other OEM has figured it out.

It seems to me that BMW doesn't value their EV customer experiences as much as other OEM's who have the technical and managerial competence to implement the compatibility.
He has a name, and he's shown himself to be every bit as stubborn, and childish and likely also as vindictive as _ _ _ _ _ _.

But anywho. Octember 43rd can't come soon enough.

Then this thread can die, and a new one to complain about "Superchargers and the idiots that use them" can be reborn from the ashes like a phoenix.

Octember 43 is the correct technical term You need to read back in the threads on tesla access to get familiar with them.
Certainly in American English, but it's not polite to ignore regional/dialectical language variation. 😉

Sure, BMW will sell them and BMW will place its logo on them. But it’s not like BMW is providing specs unique to its cars or manufacturing them.
In other words, the delay has no purpose.

The delay could be for some software issue.
Or perhaps because Tesla won’t grant access until BMW starts delivering cars with J3400 ports?
But any delay sure isn’t for which third party(ies) will deliver adapters with the BMW logo.

I emailed 'contact us' on the BMW Canada website yesterday about the Tesla Supercharger access..... will let you know their response if it comes.

Maybe others waiting for access should do the same.....

I can't imagine a perceived lack of interest is the cause of the delay.

I agree, but everything is a business decision and there is always priorities. Demand for EVs in the USA is slowing...sales are still going up, just not a fast rate. Especially with Tax credits going away at the end of the month. Moving EVs till the end of the month would be my only priority if I were them. I doubt lack of Supercharger access is preventing a lot of buyers from not buying today. A year ago, yes. But knowing it is coming is probably good enough for a lot of people to buy.

Loss of NEVI funding and an administration that doesn't care about EVs puts a lot of uncertainty into buying an EV. When I bought mine 2 years ago, there was optimism that EV chargers will be everywhere in a few years, no not so much. I'm afraid of Tesla becoming a charging monopoly and being able to charge whatever they want. At least today there is competition...hopefully it stays that way.

I do not think engineers working on BMW software and hardware to enable Supercharger access are being asked to help with car sales push. I also do not believe perceived or real EV sales rate has any impact on Supercharger access delays. BMW has acknowledged it will provide access for a better customer experience and has already officially announced iX3 will have J3400 port and TSCN access on day 1. BMW also said TSCN access due by Dec 31, 2025. Perceived or real demand for EVs is not changing anything.

Correct, engineers are not pushing car sales, but priorities dictate do how where money is spent, keep course with current team or ramp up staffing and overtime to meet deadlines. Engineers could be pulled to work current issues in manufacturing. I've been part of a few all hands on deck as a Hardware/Digital engineer in my career. Priorities, is the iX3 for the USA market with the J3400 port more important than delaying supercharger access a few weeks? Especially if they still can meet the December 31st deadline?

Access has been delayed enough that almost nobody who has been following this issue expects access any sooner than Dec 31 and many probably expect later. I am not concerned about getting access +/- a few weeks. BMW already missed the summer road trip season.

Loss of NEVI funding
The temporary pause of a few months on the further releases of the $5b to state DOTs was trivial compared to the slow rollout by state DOTs of NEVI stations. (For example, among the four states of VT, NH, MA, and CT, only a single station has been built, and after a few months it became so unreliable as to be unusable, notwithstanding the 97% uptime requirement, as well as pleas to the company CFO, ie my wife’s brother.)
And the $2.5 CFI has never been modified.
(Although I sure wish it were, given that a municipality near me managed to spend $2.46m on only four plugs, half of which were broken for a month less than a year after opening.)

I'm afraid of Tesla becoming a charging monopoly and being able to charge whatever they want. At least today there is competition...hopefully it stays that way.
If you look at Tesla’s current market share, its low % of NEVI awards to date of the eventual $5b, its likely similarly low % of the $2.5b CFI, and the entrance of charging networks like Ionna and MB that actually care about sufficiently sized and reasonably reliable stations, fear of a TSCN monopoly seems unfounded.

The NEVI program has been running since 2021. In 2022, when I was purchasing the i4, it appeared there will be more than EA and Tesla across the USA. I would have never predicted a few years later the Governor of Florida declining to use any NEVI money. I understand disagreeing with something, but leaving money on the table is crazy. Especially with a lot of Republicans in this state driving EVs. I also would never have guessed in a million years the state of Florida retaliating against Disney....one of the largest employers in the state and bringing millions of tourists to Florida. Enough politics, and shouldn't have brought it up but it shows things can change quickly. I hope you are right about IONNA and MB but there have been a lot of charging proposals that never materialized. MB isn’t selling a lot of EVs in my neck of the woods, I can see them quickly changing plans too.

Also you cannot always blame XYZ company for lack of chargers. My county of 1/2 millon people just got their first Tesla Supercharger. My city was listed on Tesla's survey site for 2 years with people complaining they cannot vacation in Florida with their EV. Tesla bought land and installed chargers. Now waiting for over 5 months for city to approve. It is clear the city leaders do not want EVs. In the meantime multiple new gas stations have opened.

I would describe the NEVI program as more like staggering, limping, etc. rather than running.
Since Congress passed it almost four years ago, well, let's take EV-friendly MA from this list:
Feds have obligated $50m so far to MA.
Not a single site appears to have been selected.

I tried to confirm this with the the MassDOT Chief COMMUNICATIONS Officer:
Amelia Aubourg - MassDOT | LinkedIn
… who is an
"Author, strategic communicator & leader with over twenty years of experience adept in helping shape brands to elevate, enhance and empower their business in valued gifts of time, talent and treasure”
.... and who specifically in this role:
"I am responsible for overseeing and directing a coordinated department that ensures that all communications to the public concerning MassDOT transportation projects are represented and received in a positive manner. I ensure that the public is informed of on-going projects and their potential impact to the affected communities.”

I received a couple nonsubstantive "I'll get back to you" responses but mainly I just get ghosted.

I'm not sure which is worse: that our federal taxpayer dollars authorized for MA NEVI stations are still sitting in the U.S. Treasury, or that our state taxpayer dollars are paying this woman's salary, which was $168,185.30 in 2023, so add on even more by 2025 for cost of living and her, ah, exceptional job performance.

As for roadblocks to private initiatives, often the problem can be the utility.
Although when I contacted the utility about this station:
... that was completed over a year ago except for being energized, the staffer I talked on the phone with for a long time was intrigued, but he hasn't been able to resolve the mystery.

Maybe your brother-in-law warned MS Auburg about this guy.

So they won’t even confirm the famous “end of 2025” date.

And it probably won’t help to ask a dealer, let alone a BMW genius.

That letter from BMW Canada translates from Canadian to American as: Go away and bother someone else.
:D
