Just had this pop this morning but it quickly cleared on its own before we did anything. No error in Check Control Messages and the car starts fine (is that how we still say it? :) ). Called the dealer but haven't heard back yet. I assume we're good to drive but random glitches are always concerning.

Yeah. Car has been parked for a few days and not connected to our charger as I don't "top off" every night but wait till it drops to 20% (it's at 36% now). Seems like a system health check failure with a generic "STOP!" message. Had no issues prior to this. Side note: The car has less than 700 miles on the odo.

I just got the same error right after driving a new i4 e35 off of a dealer lot. The car worked for approximately 2 miles until it started shuddering and jerking while the gas was applied. It could not maintain even 25mph, which is scary when cars are zooming by at 45-55. I pulled over and called the salesman, who came by and encouraged me to nurse the car back. Eventually, the car started petering out to the point where it could not maintain 10mph. In an modest uphill area, the car could not generate enough power to move forward and started rolling back. I solved that by turning the car off/on, which allowed me to get to 5-10 mph. After power cycling the car a few times, we finally made it back to the dealer..

What was the resolution after BMW looking into it? Our i4 was sitting in the garage and the error popped after getting in to run an errand. We hadn't driven anywhere or even hit Start. Without intervention, the error cleared on its own within minutes and the car drove fine during a quick drive around the neighborhood.

These faults get stored. I encourage you to talk with your Service Center about this.

Taking it in this morning. Checked and FWIW, my software is 11/2022.27. We'll see what they say.
I would want at least 44, but I suspect you'll get 57 or 60 unless they have an even newer one (02/2023, perhaps?).

No resolution, it's been silent from BMW. This happened last night.

Car is still at the dealer and BMW engineering is involved. They wanted to know the sequence of events before the error (parked, not charging or even plugged in to the EVSE). There was no action on our part other than to sit in the car and error appeared during the initial power on welcome sequence. I don't expect to hear anything until next week at the earliest. More to come.

Latest update:
Error was generated by "Non-message return faults" between the Electric Motor Electronics module (EME) and Dynamic Stability Control module (DSC) as well as the high voltage battery. As explained to me, the EME sent queries but didn't receive expected replies. Root cause is still under investigation.

No news regarding the underlying cause or possible resolution. Whatever happened to pop the error is concerning enough BMW is now sending an engineer to the dealer to investigate first hand. 👀 I guess standard diagnostics aren't shedding enough light. At least I now have a nice X5 loaner (to replace the craptastic 30K mile Camry they first gave me). They're saying end of next week at the earliest.

Two weeks in and still waiting. A BMWNA engineer came out to inspect this week and per my service advisor, they are confident it's a software issue and a fix is pending. That said, he doesn't know if this is unique to my car or being observed by others elsewhere. Regardless, BMWNA advised my dealer not to return the car for fear of the problem recurring and leaving me stranded. It's all very vague beyond they know it involves comms to/from the EME. 🤷‍♂️

Yep. That’s the error.

Day 24 and mine is still with the dealer. BMWNA hasn’t provided any update or guidance beyond the direction to not return the car to me. The X5 loaner I was driving was sold but they replaced it with a 2019 M6 so I can’t complain as far as that goes. That said, I and my service advisor are concerned about how this will be resolved given how long it’s taking. This happened with less than 700 miles on the odo. 🫤
