When looking at configurator today for sensatec beige I notice the seat belts are black (not beige) and also all plastic parts on neckrests, back part of center console etc are black (probably also rear plastic parts of front seats which would be welcome).

Is this a bug in configurator or a change for MY2023?

So finally I know the answer.

Configurator was 50% correct.

On 2023 models with Canberra Beige, belts and seatbacks (A and B) have changed to black. Not the rest (C and D)

In the great leather vs. sensatec debate, curious if anyone has thoughts between ventilated leather seats vs. sensatec. I've ruled out non-ventilated leather. Great for some, but for me it gets too hard over time and not worth the extra money. However, if I get ventilated leather, it does add extra functionality. I just can't decide if it's really worth it given the ventilated function is known to not work amazingly.

You give up adjustable side bolsters for ventilated seats. I like the adjustable bolsters.

Waiting for my M50......

Thanks. I’m curious to hear from current i4 owners. Does anyone who got Sensatec think they maybe should have gone with leather or vice versa?

I strongly prefer the leather over the Sensatec. I like the way I can adjust the seat to me, and having driven the car for 14 and 18 hour days, I'd say they are quite astounding.

Which did you have in your 330e?

For those that have Sensatec, do the seats soften up over time? I sat in an i4 with Sensatec and couldn't help noticing the lower back portion of the seat feeling very firm. I kept trying to adjust the lumbar to fix it but couldn't get it to a comfortable position. I'm really hoping I won't regret my Sensatec decision!

I ordered leather, mainly because I want the ventilation. I also want to stick in the seats better, and adjustable width can help that. But I like the probable durability and veganity of the fake. Stretches and wrinkles in leather seats are 100% normal and unavoidable.
Can you tell us about how you like the ventilation and did the seats turn out the way you'd hoped? I heard that BMW ventilation sucks air from the body (top surface) instead of blowing up from the surface. We are leaning towards Sensatec, and ventilation requires a lot of compromise (black or mocha leather only in US).

I went with sensatec and haven't regretted it yet. My wife's X5 has ventilated vernasca, So far (a year into the car) she has been disappointed by ventilation. My Infiniti had ventilated seats and after a few minutes driving around you could feel it, if you didn't realize they were on you would think the seat was wet. My dad's lexus is even more powerful, after a few minutes I turn it off. With my wife's x5 they are on and you can barely feel it and it's not cooled, just seems to push ambient air around.

I was on the fence about tacora red leather or tacora red sensatec, ventilated isn't an option and I wanted red seats. In the end I really do think I made the right choice. The extra $1850 for leather ventilated seats (pretending they came in tacora) wasn't really worth it. My first few builds of my car I had the regular headlights and no HUD, I ended up adding the laser lights and HUD. For me those two are worth the extra money.

If the question is more about the cushioning and support, that to me is less about the material on the top. You might just not like sport type seats which have less padding

I've always been consistently of the view that Sensatec is as soft and comfortable as Dakota/ Vernasca type leathers where the grain is basically stamped on after the fact. The Dakota in my 5 series is rougher than the Sensatec my sister in laws 3 series.

Now, if you talking about a semi-Aniline leather like Merino, then it is much softer but then it wears poorly and requires regular care (which I have never afforded my Dakota).

I have ordered Sensetec on my car but what I am really interested in is the new Sensafin. Reports are that it is similar in quality with Merino without the price tag and maybe without the wear. I would love if that came to the i4 at some point.

Sensatec will most probably last longer than leather, alcantara won't.
Bear in mind that the cheaper leather options have a PU layer with leather "look" print over them, so they won't get scratched as easily as the real thing. They will eventually get marks on the outside bolsters, as my BMWs with Dakota did after a few years.

I think I'll go with leather in order to get seat ventilation.
I do have 10 years old 3 series with basic M alcantara/textile seats, and after 130.000 kms, there is not even one spot of visible wear…
